How does the point system in Legendary even work?

Well, I just made it into Legendary arena a few days ago, and I've been trying to figure out the point system. It seems completely random to me how many points you win or lose after every match. I've had games where I dominated someone 3-0 that's higher level than me and barely get more than 100 points. I had a match today where I took on someone who's level 20 (I'm level 16) and put up a great fight barely losing 3-2 and I lost almost 200 points. On draws sometimes I gain points and sometimes I lose points. I'm assuming most of it's based on your opponent's ranking in relation to yours, but I'm sure there's other factors at play. Can someone please give me some clarification?

I want to assume it's an ELO system, but I could be wrong.
If it IS ELO, read this

Ah, thanks for that. Now that you mention it, I do recall some people referring to the points as Elo, but back then I wasn't really that close to making it into Legendary, so I didn't pay it much mind at the time. Once again, thanks for the link, it was an interesting read.

I doubt it's based on ELO. I lose the same about of points after every match, regardless of the opposing player level.

Legendary is based on ELO. Click your gold legendary shield in the PVP screen to see.

Beating a higher ranked player gives you more ELO than a lower ranked player.

Losing to a higher rank player loses you less ELO than a lower ranked player.
