    Grenades and Gas masks

Just wondered what people thought of the idea of having the option to switch the type of grenade we have equipped. Switch flash bang for CS gas grenade or smoke and frag for H.E,

At present the gas masks are purely cosmetic. Other items like the NVG helmets and Predator biomask have an effect so why not gas masks?

I always enjoy immersion and items having a real purpose, but this would require new mechanics and it is extremely unlikely that Ubi will bother with that.

Given how much they struggle to add a simple firearm, it would probably turn out as a big mess aswell

The way the game is set up, I don't think CS or smoke are necessary. FBs are required both for snatch and grabs and giving you the extra couple of seconds needed to engage multiple targets (spec. more targets than you could engage without a distraction device before the enemy returns fire).

CS and smoke both have lingering effects which wouldn't give you any advantages in Wildlands. Even by wearing a mask, CS would realistically contaminate any exposed skin, clothing, gear, weapons, ammo, and equipment and be a potential source of irritation after you've completed whatever objectives that necessitated its use. Personally, I would expedite matters with a frag and go straight to shredding hostiles instead of making them cry and then shooting them or taking prisoners. Moreover, the latter would introduce unnecessary risk that could easily cause your 4-man team to be wiped out.

Smoke is primarily used for signalling (esp. aircraft). Since we aren't required to signal extractions or mark targets for artillery or air strikes, smoke in that capacity is useless. When used for blinding or screening, you would need to lob a number of them out before they would put out enough smoke to serve your purpose. Not to mention, you are going to alert every hostile in the area and most probably get wiped out. If you need to use smoke for blinding or screening, the excrement has seriously hit the fan and you're all out of wet wipes, and is indicative of poor planning. Moreover, it would be prudent to research the regional bylaws of where you intend on using them, because there could be some hefty fines if used in Santa Blanca buildings designated as 'No Smoking'.

Apart from realism, game-wise I suspect players would get significant FPS drops given that Wildlands is already graphics demanding without having to render those particular distortive visual effects.

BTW, the M67 frag is HE.

I hadn’t thought of the ‘No Smoking’ signs. It’s a good point. RL smoke isn’t much good. Slightest breath of wind and it dissipates way too quick, but it has been used in game quite well in the past. Conflict: Dessert Storm used it effectively. But as JensDekkersNL says it would require new mechanics. .

And you’re quite correct about the contamination from CS. Anyone that ever visited the lavatory having forgotten they’ve been exposed to CS gets a sharp reminder. (When that happened to colleague, I didn’t laugh....much).

The only thing CS has over FBs is the lingering effects inside buildings. Once a room or area is flooded, it takes quite awhile to clear. Good for the person operating in it as any new players entering are likely to suffer the same impairment/incapacitation, but bad if you need to lead a hostage out.
