    Why do people de rank?

Can somebody explain the philosophy of de ranking to me? I honestly dont understand it. Sure, ok, you get down to an easier level to get more rewards, but isnt the object to eventually go back up? So isnt this basically chopping off your nose to spite your face?

Hah, sorry about that. This exact same topic came up last week but I can see it slipped to page 2 so maybe you missed it?

Simple answer is the rewards do not match the effort to pay at your top rank (in legendary at least) 95% of the season. You get the exact same lockers and PVP packs at rank 13000+ as you do in the top 100, so there is a HUGE incentive to derank (can be done as an idle activity while watching TV, cooking or whatever so it doesn't really take time). Then you get almost instant PVP packs and can hit locker limit in a couple hours max. By far the best way to get resources and fish for legendary cards.

I agree it's a crappy system though and is not how the game "should" be played. There are 3 ways out I can see.

    1. Ban derankers (not likely, it'd kill their playerbase)
    2. Implement a new matchmaking system (also not likely, they tried some nonsense with high level silver shield players last patch and it was a disaster, so I doubt any complex deck based system will be attempted)
    3. Incentivise players to stay at their top rank by improving rewards higher in the ladder or by the amount of time you stay at a high rank

Unfortunately it seems the devs are alergic to solutions based on reward (many have been proposed) so I'm not incredibly optimistic, but we'll see!

Ya, but still, the object of the game to me is to climb the leaderboard, and de ranking is a pretty backwards way to do it. Still, I appreciate you explaining it to me and helping me understand the "logic" behind it.

because they are selfish, simple fact is its easier for them to finish events and get rewards by basically farming lower ranks, I had 7900 ELO, and now lose 200 to a level 19 NK with full level 4 epics and level 6 rares... its BS, they don't care who they screw over in thier quest for easy loot, any system RL put in place is about as effective as a chocolate teapot, things have been suggested, that get ignored, how hard is it to actually match players by NK/card level so this BS cant happen? match players this way they always face similar players, then what.. oh yea they can't cheat the event system, they cant cheat players out of the cutoff for L by being selfish either, and they can't waste everyone's time, its a game, keep all the games even so players can actually enjoy it, such a system isn't hard...

don't incentivse, just stop people actually deranking, giving them better loot just makes the gap bigger.

It's a video game Scott, it's not like derankers are coming to your house and stealing the food you were going to give to your kids. Sure it is taking advantage of the system, but you could argue that optimising on every parameter is one of the things many people find appealing about games. I do agree it stinks to get steamrolled, but I still believe that incentives are going to be much more effective than half-assed fixes to try and mechanically stop it from happening.

Card stats would be problematic because it completely excludes skill as a factor. Some really excited player goes out and drops 500 bucks on the game. Gets a single deck to the highest levels they can with it. Then starts a game. They get matched with someone who has the same level deck but earned it by playing from beta with little money spent and knows how to play it inside and out. You have now set the newer player up to get steamrolled.

This is an extreme example but illustrates the need to include skill as a factor. I have guildmates who regularly beat people with cards much higher level than themselves.

if you haven't got skill beating things around your own level then its tough, learn to play better.

and yes correct it is a game, and games are played to be enjoyed, not for farming.. 2 games for my pvp pack today

level 19 deranker - lost on purpose.... so zero game

level 19 deranker, level 6 cards.... again not fun pointless waste of my time

thats 3 derankers in 2 pvp packs, for a net loss of 200 odd ELO, I shouldn't be facing these, I don't want to face these, either give me the option to blacklist or fix matchmaker

Basic moral of the story is, theres plenty of loopholes to work through on this game, but you're totally lame if you do. I could sort of understand it if you were playing a computer (Grand theft auto cheats were a huge thing back in my high school days. Coveted even.), but to cheat in direct competition with another person is just beyond worthless.
