Warlord Tips vs Wu Lin characters?

I seem to hold my own against Jian Jun and depending on the player, Tiandi. However, Shaolin and Nuxia are a pain in the *** with all the spamming. What to do..? People make guides with other characters but there's so little out there on Warlord... especially for countering other heroes. I'm mostly just doing my own experimentation and seeing what works but these 2 in particular are frustrating to deal with.

Well I am not going to say I am a expert on this matter. But this is what works for me since they usually spam from side to side I will allow them to hit me on one side that way I can get the right timing down for a light attack. With the warlord he has perfect counter it basically is a second way to parry. Once that is done I will instantly go in to my two heavy combo and depending on their house level take another heavy form top or opposite side as they to lad the last blow. Or repeat step one and drain more of their stamina.

I'm a WL main so deal with them fairly regularly. If you're doing okay vs JJ then I'll just talk about the others. For Nuxia she's very basic. They love to throw light attacks because it's all she's really good for, so you usually just block on indicator. If they aren't he light spam type then they tend to like their traps. WL has super lights so you can't just throw an attack out to counter it like other heroes on the roster. What I do is GB on reaction as soon as I see the orange, or just maintain pressure because she's an assassin with a lower HP pool. As a WL you can't give these assassins much breathing room for mixups etc, especially against heroes like Shaman (who I recently got into playing ). Use your lights and headbutts to apply w/e pressure you can, although many Nuxia like to dodge on indicator so go for heavy feints and super light punish or heavy/headbutt feint GB for dodge spammers. The zone can be okay too.

As for Shaolin his main gimmick is his top light and his Qi stance. His top light is 400ms and his sides are 500ms. His chain doesn't throw consecutive lights, only light-heavy infinite chain or heavy-light infinite chain. You'll have to read the opponent to understand how he likes to use them. But I find a lot of them like going for that top light, especially if they can link it to their Qi stance. Most Shaolin I run into like to go into their stance to do the Sun Kick, but if you predict dodge that too much they might just go for the undodgeable heavy or a 20 damage light attack from either direction. A decent shaolin who lands their side lights will get all 3 hits on you as it's a guaranteed combo. Even though its 500ms it can hit 3 times if its done on the same side for 12 + 6 + 6 = 24 damage. I don't see it as often though as its a 500 MS attack and most Shaolin seem to prefer their top light and using side heavy follow ups for Qi stance. Lower tier shaolin users might just use the light-heavy chain and just hope to spam you out guarding top and reacting to sides can be a decent help. I play on console so there's more prediction game than the guys who invest $2k+ in their PC equipment living in their mom's basements with 8 latency who can react to everything. For a Shaolin who likes his stance a lot, I find I can use WL zone to hit them out of it as long as I'm quick enough. Otherwise you get sun kicked or eat a super light to the face.

Oh, and the all-guard is able to shut down a decent number of combos from these heroes, but keep in mind that it doesn't guarantee punishes. Against very average people you'll get your undodgeable heavy in after they hit your guard, but most of the time it gets blocked, plus it eats your stamina hella hard. Not worth relying on it like a Conqueror or a BP bulwark Warlord 2.0 bash boy. WL has a limited kit so you have to make the most out of everything. Hopefully he'll get some nice reworks in the future. I think Ubi is taking it slow because apparently he was hella broken for like the first 3 seasons. Not sure, I didn't play until near season 8.

Also keep in mind that Warlord is short range with little hyper armor compared to the rest of the cast, along with limited mixup potential etc. It's possible to win with him but it does take more work than with other heroes. His kit is largely reactable against higher level players as his hits are 500-600 ms hits in 2 hit chains. His top light is a whopping 600ms right now. He's not in that great of a place right now as the game is gearing towards the offense meta. You have to be mindful of how you attack. You can use his late *** hyperarmor and still hit Shaolins and Nuxias out of their animations but you have to be able to predict well in advance what they may be doing. If you can get a side heavy in or a light attack baiit follow up heavy, that's 35-40 damage. I don't recommend throwing 2 heavies in a row. They're slow and have late *** hyper armor. Easy way to get parried, or worse if you get deflected for 40 damage. Not too many Shaolin or Nuxia can deflect, at least on console. But if I'm playing my shaolin and I see a guy likes throwing slow or predictable attacks, I see it as a free deflect.

    Well, hope this helps.

Against all dodge happy assassin, heavy feint, parry the dodge attack (usually light so....party!!! ). Also try ending a chain with (or from neutral) an undodgable zone and watch yourself slide to hit them.

Also you can delay the headbutt or buff it ( dodge - gb super fast or hit gb at the end of the dodge) it's pretty much the only real pressure you have.

If they're low hp, don't hesitate to trade heavy or leaping heavy to get an easy execution

Don't underestimate the effectiveness of stun (parry/gb - light) it's a great move even if low damage, opens them up for more.

    I hate being stunned lol
