Soldier Killing Animations Were A Huge Part Of This Game

    Hello For Honor Forums.

I just really need to say this to anybody who cares, and any moderators that can possibly bring this to the attention of the developers.

In my opinion, I think the soldier killing animations were essential to the experience of For Honor. The animations for the EIGHTEEN SETS of characters that are in the game before the Wu Lin faction, defined and gave those characters such depth and personality. Not to mention that in all of the existing character trailers, the animations are very well showcased. It is very rare to see such brilliant choreography in trailers that actually comes in to gameplay. It made holding the main lane in Dominion feel so much more impactful and impressive.

It didn't just make Dominion so much more immersive to play however. In Skirmish, when you did stumble upon a small group of 4 or 5 soldiers, and expertly take them out, it felt amazing. The Wardens combo of Half-Swording into a Murder Stroke and finishing it off with a Mordhau grip, demonstrates his mastery over the long sword with such precision. The Shugoki's way of brutalizing soldiers underfoot after tripping them with his Kanabo, or squashing them with it after an initial bash to the face felt like nothing else, The Centurion's way of getting up close and personal with the soldier receiving the last part of his heavy combo with a cut to the leg and neck, really emphasized the Centurion's title of Melee Specialist. The Raiders way of tearing though soldiers with the back, and front of his axe, and at times picking them up and throwing them, was such a great way to feel unstoppable as the vanguard of the faction.

Just because I didn't mention them all does not mean that any of them were bad. But I hope I can instill the fact that they truly did matter in the grand scheme of things. As a player who exclusively plays PvE, in this PvP based game, it meant the a lot to me. It even influenced some of my choices as to what character to work on. I had no interest in playing Centurion or Shugoki until I saw the initial animations for the soldier killing moves, and from there I furthered my interest in the character with armor, weapons, and executions.

I understand why Breach mode does not have any animations for killing the Pikemen, because of their health pool and I'm fine with that. For me, the update to remove the soldier animations, just made me ignore them entirely. It feels completely unsatisfying just lazily slapping them around with my Nerf-Sword-like movements. Through all of the updates, every nerf and buff, I've stuck with the game because of the characters, executions, fighting, and brilliant soldier choreography. Now that one of the biggest things in the game is gone, I'm not sure how much more I can play.

Once I learned Arcade mode was locked behind a pay wall, I was disappointed, but hopeful for the day I could pay upwards of 50k Steel for it, so I can have a randomly generated mission with soldiers AND the bots I've become so accustomed to fighting. Now that half of that is gone, I have little reason to carry on. I sunk so many hours into this game, in hope of it getting better and better I really want to continue seeing it get better, but with massive features as big as this to the game being taken away, its the least to say I'm worried.

    TL;DR
Please bring back animations for the soldiers, I loved them so much.

That's a lot of work for Ubi, it would probably take a couple seasons as they'd have to make ones for the Wu-Lin. They'd also make it so Shaolin doesn't have Warden's ressing a person animation, Nuxia having Shaman's revived animation, JJ have Shaman's revived animation, etc, etc.

At this point I would love just a statement from Ubi saying there working on it for the Wu-Lin, but yeah I get what you're saying.

There's no reason they couldn't bring back the animations for the original cast for instakill minions and just leave the Wu Lin as they are.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback! We appreciate the players who take the time offer their full thoughts on any aspect of the game. It seems that a lot of players really enjoyed the animations and would like to see them return. I will send this to the fight team to see if it is possible to implement in the future.

I completely agree. This is one aspect I absolutely loved about For Honor, and I'm really upset Ubisoft completely removed it from the game. This, along with several other things they've removed or needlessly changed, have put a severe damper on the whole experience.

Hmm, I guess even if Wu Lin would not get those animations, I would be fine with the old heroes getting them back too. However, I have to wonder when it comes to efficiency. To me it feels as if the new attacks for some heros are way superior compared to the old ones when it comes to killing speed. Especially when those heroes had infinite combos - Berserker for example.

Yeah I can understand that, there are usually ways to work around it I think. The tried and true method of locking on to do normal combos works pretty well. They also could add something in the options to turn the animations on an off overall, or for specific characters. That way the people who like it how it is right now could keep it this way, and the players that enjoy the theatrical version could still enjoy themselves.
