Lol, nice. The actual explanation for the bulletproof foliage can be found here, if anyone's interested.Originally Posted by RedCeII Go to original post
that explanation about the foliage makes me wanna rage dude!
theres "cover" and then theres "concealment"
"cover" is something that adds protection between you and your soon to be murdered meat sack
"concealment" is what visually obscures your body so your soon to be murdered meat sack has a more difficult time seeing you before you strike
even the Demolition Ranch guy on youtube did a whole video about "using trees for cover" and proved that unless you are all pressed up on the tree, the likelyhood of even a .50cal hitting you is brutally remote depending on the density of the tree (even with FMJ, the tree stripped the copper jacket, the bullet tumbled backwards and penetrated ~2inches and that was a 20in diameter tree!)
They would really need to improve the AI -- and 'dumb' it down -- to differentiate between detection and acquisition for that to be more realistic, though. Whereas we use our sight to first detect an enemy's position, and then attempt to track that target by movement through changes in light levels in patches of vegetation with lesser density, NPCs cheat. For NPC's, detection equals LOS and whether LOS equals LOF depends wholly on whether the vegetation is uniformly designated as cover or concealment. If it's designated as concealment, then the only method under the current AI to be on a par with what the NPCs 'see' would be to completely remove the concealment.
This has been an annoyance in GR since its inception wherever vegetation or other irregularly shaped obstructions have been employed. If there's one thing that's more annoying than not being able to kill a target after emptying an AR mag into a bush it's being perfectly targeted by enemy AI from a mile out with no LOS behind even the most dense of concealment. Although at times being unrealistic, the current mechanic of going prone mitigates your overall BS alarm.
How about the 'impassable' versions of chain link fencing? Is everyone liking those? From one perspective, a player can understand the desire to create choke points. From another perspective, not being able to send a .50 cal round through it to a target while simultaneously being detected definitely gets the F-bomb... as does attempting to ram it with an APC and only succeeding in shearing off some armor plating and destroying the suspension and transmission. LOL.
