It could be an DLC or a customization pack, whatever.
All that have to be done is: simply change from/to.
1. Bolivian Town folks = Vietnamese civs.
2. Santa Blanca = VC (Viet Congs)
3. Unidad = NVA (North vietnamese Army)
Adjust or create packs of weapons, equipment, patches, then, add some Huey choppers and I would be a very very happy player!
Of course: tunnels to enter crawling used by VC, boobtraps, POW camps... (Now I am just throwing some thoughts)
The engine and an environment are already set. So...
(I know, I know, my ideas sound too simple in theory! But, it is just my humble suggestion.
Although some might think Vietnam has been used a lot in games, and is less dynamic in terrain than Bolivia, it's tunnels would add another dimension. The problem is though GR has always been a Tom Clancy title about near future conflicts, and Vietnam is about past conflicts.
I made a post some time ago when this subject came up and suggested Myanmar (formerly called Burma). It's terrain is very similar to Vietnam, and for some time has had lots of problems with everything from drugs, to human trafficking, to genocide.
Of course they'd have to spin a story for US involvement even making sense, since most developed countries choose to ignore what goes on there, except for issuing a few sanctions here and there.
I get that the Vietnam war is an interesting setting but ghost recon wasn't formed until 1994
back then they were known as Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group or ghosts
unless ubi wants to take a hacksaw to the franchises timeline I don't see a game taking place in Vietnam
For this game mabye not but if they wanna keep up the narco/terrorist theme for the next Malaysia would be perfect since groups associated with isis and al queda are present there and grow poppies to make heroin with to finance there terror plots, the ghosts could easily be sent in as part of a JSOC task force to eradicate the the drugs, and another interesting dynamic could be pirates in the area, the pirates in that area steal ships then beach them and cut them up, a ship salvage yard on a beach by the jungle would be an awesome mission area
Yeah I agree. Vietnam could be an amazing theater on this engine. The story could actually be about the MAC-V operators who met up during their tours and went on to form the first Ghost unit later in their careers when they became high-ranking brass. HOWEVER... certain modifications would certainly need to be made to the current model for it to work. Chiefly among these would have to be a comprehensive reworking of the enemy detection and line-of-sight engagement model. If enemy AI would be able to see and engage players accurately through foliage and heavy smoke after detection like they do now the game would be a cluster ****.Originally Posted by GiveMeTactical Go to original post
Obviously the jungle would have to be a central factor in the game and both player and AI should have to play with the same limitations. No line-of-sight, no precision targeting or knowledge of movement. Also, if player rounds can be deflected by foliage and branches, then so should the AI's. Lastly, moving through dense jungle in 3rd person is not the greatest, you get essentially no visibility from that camera perspective. Bottom line is it would have to be a very high quality effort, a new game in other words. Not some half-baked DLC. With the right people behind it, and I definitely don't mean the ones looking after the game now, the potential could be enormous.
The thing is, if you don't at least stick to a timeline that is relevant to what's going on in the real world, and a somewhat plausible theme in the Tom Clancy/GR style, it's no longer anything resembling Tom Clancy or GR, and lacks authenticity. Is Tom Clancy GR fiction, of course, but it's based on Tom Clancy's predictions of future warfare at the time he was writing, and many of his predictions have come true. Tearing all that apart would decimate the franchise.Originally Posted by GiveMeTactical Go to original post
So, what does Predator have to do with the timeline or TC or even GR?
I mean, you won't get an argument contradicting what you are saying or said previously, HELL, I am 100% with you but the TC & GR names have been tossed to the mud and curve like a 3 dollar ***** in this game so what is 1 more? That's what I was getting at... Narco Road, Predator... so why not Vietnam?
We had this conversation before (I mean similar post) and someone (perhaps even me but I don't believe so) mentioned bringing Dora the Explorer... same scenario I think in the grand scheme of things that are Wild-lands.
