Shaolin can re-enter Qi without attack if done in specific way.. Is this bug or intended?
So if Shaolin enters Qi with light attack, then throws top unblockable while holding down heavy button and feints it, then you'll return to Qi directly from the feint. Really cool and pretty powerful but the input is so sketchy that I'm expection this to be a bug.
Ok, I'm going to be the first to say this: Nuxia's traps are simply UNREACTABLE and I will explain why... please read until the end, it gets a bit technical...
Let's talk about traps:
I understand that they only happen soft cancelling a heavy, I understand that they happen at 400 milliseconds and that theoretically it is all reactable, but it is not.
The only way you can react to Nuxia's traps is if you are training the with the "traps" preset with her. You KNOW that she will be throwing only heavies and will launch a trap at some point, so you can react to them. This is because the number of stimulus you receive is lower than if you fight a level 3 bot or another player.
When you fight a level 3 bot or a player, neither the bot nor the player announce they gonna use the traps so the number of stimulus and choices is massive, so your reaction time is not the average 215ms I've seen people talk about around here, it is a lot more.
This is explained by the Hick's law.
Hick's law "describes the time it takes for a person to make a decision as a result of the possible choices he or she has: increasing the number of choices will increase the decision time logarithmically" so to put it simple, the more choices you have the higher your response time. There are other factors, but let's stick to this by now.
To put yourself to the test I've found THIS PAGE that contains this simple version of the Deary-Liewald paradigm that uses two tests to determine your reaction time: a "simple reaction time task" (1 option) and a "choice reaction time task" (4 options). With the results of the two tests you can see that you (basically) double the reaction time from the first to the second test.
The reaction times for the complex reaction test are above 400 ms, and here is where I want to go. Before the traps we could say that For Honor gave you 3 possible choices to react to a stimulus (an attack from the opponent) which is not entirely true (there are more choices, GB to name one), but I will keep it simple. but after the addition of traps, those options have (at least) increased by one getting the reaction time of the players (us) above the 400 ms barrier. Not only that, but the traps are a completely new stimulus, that needs to be reacted from a previously reacted stimulus, and that requires a completely different input from us, than the previous three, so the reaction time just skyrockets.
Of course, all this gets worse if you add lag, frame rate, input lag, and refresh rate of screens that I didn't consider here (now think about the console players).
That is why traps are UNREACTABLE and that is why we should also review the 400 ms lights...
Thank you for reading until the end

P.S: (I feel this post kind of deserves its own thread, so forgive me if you see it somewhere else).
--JJ's lights are fine; they are the same speed as every other heavy's and the same damage as Kensei's
--JJ's heavies need help; they are incredibly slow and the hyperarmor doesn't help deal with light attacks. With an activation of 650ms into the hyperarmor heavy, anyone can light him out. The damage of the heavies is fine though, same damage as the Vanguards but slower.
--JJ's needs to be able to feint earlier in the heavy. He can't feint in time to block other attacks since his hyperarmor isn't doing its job against light attacks. It'll work fine trading with raw heavies, but lights are the problem here.
--Zone is fine. Lots of stam and it's slow, but respectable damage and it starts combos.
--Sifu Poise is balanced. While it does increase his stamina gain a lot, there's a lot of people who can iceskate right up to you can get a guaranteed guardbreak. You'll have alot of these moments. You zone, go into Sifu, gb'd. Forces JJ to either not use the zone or to deal with being OOS without going into Sifu.
--His unblockable needs some help. All you have to do when you see that unblockable is dodge backwards, and you avoid the unblockable, the feint into gb, the feint into light, and the feint into zone. Opponents have literally nothing to fear about this move. Tag this one as "only use against low level bots" or "feint in the background of a 4v4 fight like that one guy that loves flicking the flashlight on and off in your face on a camping trip and proceeds to get his face caved in by his tentmate"
--His kick is fine. The kick is around the same speed as Kensei and gives the exact same damage as Kensei.
--His dodge attack is wonky. GB vulnerability an eternity long. Can't counter guard break, and can't even interrupt the guardbreak with a softfeint into light. At least allow us to softfeint into the light to cancel out guard breaks. This way both the JJ and opponent can properly play Rock Paper Scissors and not "heh, you finally dodged sucker"
Synopsis: You've got a Kensei that has slower heavies and zone, has less hyperarmor, and has far less mixups (and therefore far more predictable), but hey at least you can do a sideways unblockable
Replied on your post as well, but will place it here too:Originally Posted by b1gb4d0rc Go to original post
I currently play Nuxia a lot ingame, because I am quite a fan of her aesthetic and from my experience ingame traps rarely connect. There's a couple reasons for this:
1st- Her heavies are 800ms, which means the more reactive people amongst us are able to just throw a light at the sight of a heavy (which are quite well telegraphed) and one of three things happen: 1. You interrupt the heavy and deal light damage. 2. You trade your light with their heavy. 3. You interupt their trap.
2nd- Because her heavies are 800ms, the GB window is also quite large and carries over into the trap animation, so the mind-readers amongst us (which frankly isn't that hard with a Nuxia as letting that heavy fly is asking to be parried) can GB her before the trap starts.
3rd- Dodge attacks, most of the cast has them nowadays and it's a hard counter to her traps.
Frankly, in my experience her traps have been next to useless on anyone that wasn't out of stamina, and the traps could definetly be made either faster, receive variable timing, or she could get traps performed out of other moves in her kit. Frankly, Nuxia is the weakest out the Wu-Lin bunch and the second worst Assassin currently (Only PK is worse) and could already go with a rework, despite being just released.
(PS, my reaction times on those tests of yours were 236ms and 286ms)
I have the most important issue with this faction, right here....nah i'm just kidding, i wanted just to point out the fact that the new heroes can't be customized with certain symbols (ac syndicate, r6, far cry), u know the ones you get from uplay, and it kinda sucks....would be nice to have those too
Scored 230ms on simple and 320ms on complex with first try (absolutely no muscle memory developed yet) and here your complex task had 4 different buttons you have to press depending on 4 locations of X. With Nuxia you have to press one button when you see yellow circle.. I'm already countering it pretty consistently and the fact that you have human there enables you to read their patterns and anticipate actions. Thanks for the test thou I really liked it but if I where you I would concentrate bit more on getting better rather than trying to prove something unreactable after week of release.
