Can anyone answer this question with 100% certainty?

What's the difference between modes? (Easy-Normal-Hard-Nightmare)? Do they affect damage or health? Yours or your enemies' DMG and/or HP? How much (in points)?

I started a Nightmare run last night, and while I barely got it off of the starter island, I did notice some differences, especially during naval segments:

    1. Enemy ships are fully equipped. I don't recall this being a thing in Normal or Hard, although it could have been, it struck me as different when I encountered it. Level 8 enemy ships are using fire arrows.

    2. It is a lot less forgiving, which was especially noticeable during the end boss on the first island. However, I was still managing to one shot on assassinations, about 95% of the time, so far. I haven't gotten out of the camp on Megaris yet. I got there after breaking the blockade, and had 3 Mercs just waiting for me to go out, so I figured it was time to sleep...

    3. They do seem to hit harder too, although some of this was also my fault, trying to take on lvl 5 enemies at level 2...
