I'm going to trust that I dont get attacked for this... but I love the perks.
Stats were out of control, making certain heroes pointless and revenge builds the norm. Perks are minor buffs and dont truly effect the hero. Now the heroes have a better chance at being balanced.
I'm also finding it a hell of a lot of fun to manage perks and keep my eyes out for gear with the stats I need.
I completely understand the dissatisfaction with how gear was converted, as my heroes dont also have what I would prefer... but I'm going to be playing and collecting loot anyway.
I can understand the issues of the game, but I'm not joking. I've seen this happen before with other games, and it wasn't pretty. If they want to rebalance heroes properly, they can listen to the playerbase and play their characters without gear stats to find balance. Taking the whole foudnation of the combat system right out of the game is not a very good move.
Guys, I'm dead serious, look at Xaviant and their game The Culling, look up youtube videos about it or something, I don't care, but just please look at what happened to that game.
For Honor is going down that same path, and I really do love this game too much to see it go. It's always been the only game that I can always boot up and have fun. But my Lawbringer has no place in the game now. I somewhat limped along this previous update, with my 20 something reps on him. But now I can't even squeeze the 3 extra damage I had on my heavies, or be able to do combos with the stamina I have.
Gear stats are important, period.
Hoop your "get good" comments.
So a veteran Achilles is supposed to be on par with pig the farm boy that got a pitch fork shoved into his hand ??
Some classes have mega damage or high stamina from day one. Try getting punched in the beak from a cent now and wait ten mins for exhaustion recovery to do anything..
The ppl who are ok with this change are clearly using classes that have better defaults.
When I was fresh and I first saw ( and got skuered) by a golden lawb I understood this guy is seasoned. So spend time, learn and grow to his level. Now I can run faster for a 2 seconds or pick a class that has better prks or abandon all my heros?
Right? Not to mention I bet Centurion suffers from the same problem any other heavy has atm; low damage couple with high stamina cost. Which pretty much kills the entire reason for having heavies in the first place. At least before we could squeeze out a couple extra damage on our heavies and lower the cost so we could get away with our combos. But perks leave no room for that.
And in any case, doesn't every new player have to fight an uphill battle against more skilled and more equipped players in any other game? Take for instance Battelfield, Rainbow Six Siege, Dark Souls and the list could go on! When there's an issue in those games, they fix just the issue. They don't nuke the entire way the game is played.
What if Battlefield made it so that all the guns you get at higher levels are unlocked at the start, solely because new players asked for it? The game would crash. I know this isn't Battlefield, but the same exact logic and reasoning can be applied here.
The balance of perks is marginal. Ironically, so is the cost (kind of). Because even if they made the cost next-to-zero, they'd have still taken away people's gear, as the transition made that gear only have the 2 same perks (1 exact combination per gear tier). Not only is 33% of the gear score from previously maxed gear completely wasted, you can't even change the perks, and they were picked by the developers to not be optimal.
We're all left with trash 2 perk gear that we can scrap to get useless Salvage. This is atrocious and has to be fixed immediately, but I have no idea what they're going to do with the fact that people already fell for it and spent Steel trying to min max gear, maybe even scrapped their gear. Are they just gonna reverse gear purchases/modifications or something? Is that even technically possible? If they give nothing back to those who felt victims to this and spent steel, but at least fix this ********, that would still be a positive outcome, as long as they apologize and maybe give those people free crates or something. I don't know. I just don't ****ing know how this went through.

What if Ubisoft could remove the steel cost on changing the appearance and upgrade? (Only keeping or increasing the cost of materials)
I know it is not the perfect solution, but at least it would make easier to reach the desired level we felt we have with the old stats. I think main reason of the rant is because we will need to do everything again and spend a lot in the new equipment

At this point, this game is so different from what we received in February of 2017. Sure, some changes were needed. But overall, I don't like the direction the game has gone. It's become less of a hardcore sword-fighter and more of an arcadey frenzy. And I'm sick of relearning my fighting style every 3-4 months when there's a major change to mechanics. Again, sometimes it's warranted, but whether it's warranted or not it's jarring every time. Not to mention the ridiculous balance issues that are ignored for months on end.
I'm not finding this perk system interesting. What was the reasoning for getting rid of gear stats?
Early on in the game's life, the dev team switched out some gear stats (like throw distance if I recall correctly, and others). That was the way to manage this system, take out the OP/abusive stats and replace them. Not throw out the entire system.
Many of you may say, "you had weeks to play the open test and read up on this." In retrospect I wish I had, but it sounds like much of the feedback from the tests was ignored anyway. I thought the perk system would be close to a 1:1 replacement for gear stats, it's not. It's totally different and destroys the customization we worked hard to achieve on these characters. As I said above, I now have to adjust my fighting style because I was used to my gear layouts.
when they talked about perks they tried to sell it with: “it would be easy for you to identify the perks from your foes”.....that would make sense if we got a max of 5 different perks (normal as buff def, buff attack, buff speed, etc) but no with the number of perks we received...who is going to memorize them?...hardly we will be able to do it with the perks of my own main char.
This is a mess...and it will be a nightmare to grind and grind again for the equipment with the perks we consider the less worst
So, the main “advantage” you told us about awareness of the enemies’ perks is a failure...and now I also will need to waste more iron to change appearance and upgrade everything again?....at least remove steel cost from those actions.
