The update's not even out yet, and already based on how it's been described in the Warrior's Den thing from early August, there seems to be some problems and inconsistencies.
They say that they want the gap between high and low levels to be small, yet lock specific perks behind levels and rarity of the new equipment.
They say they want people to allowed to customize their heroes to fit their play style, yet only give each hero 7 out of 21 of all the perks available.
Certain perks are specific to certain heroes, or certain sets of heroes.
What if I want my Law Bringer to have all the move speed perks in the game and be a charging rhino of a man?
They appear to have locked move speed perks to lighter, assassin and hybrid classes.
Just because something fits with what you would assume would be the play style of somebody because they play specific heroes does not make that reality.
Make all perks available to all heroes, do not lock any perks behind level or rarity of gear.
If they really have so little of an impact on the outcome of a match, then why not?
You can't tell me what my play style is just because I play a certain hero in your game.
The idea of protecting the people from themselves is foolish. Locking perks behind level and rarity of equipment literally just goes against your objective of keeping a small gap between the advantages and disadvantages of high level players and heroes vs. low level players and heroes. You're keeping certain features locked from new players or lower level heroes entirely.
They literally show that players will not be able to have the maximum possible number of perks activated at one time until like Reputation 10 for a specific hero.
You say that things like parrying may be more difficult for newer players to pull off, but you actually don't have all that much control over whether or not they quickly pick up an essential game play mechanic quickly or not. Having perks based on such game play mechanics only incentivizes new players to more quickly learn such essential game play mechanics to reap more benefit out of such skills.
This kind of system doesn't work that well for a system based on random drops. This style of perks based on equipment works better in things like Monster Hunter because you can actually know what a piece of equipment will give you perk wise and you're able to just build up intentionally to having a full set based on certain perks. In something like this? You happen to get the same piece of equipment repeatedly and never actually get the perks you want? Sorry bud, you're out of luck.
"If you're happy with the first two, then you're happy with the first two, we're not trying to make them obsolete."
But what if you're not happy with the first two? What if you're a lower level player or hero and want the last two?
There's still little to no point in upgrading a piece of gear until you're relatively high reputation and already have great gear available to you with a large bonus to a large number of perks to upgrade.
Also, have you considered having both the old gear system and the new gear system available at the same time?
That sounds like it would be much more fun, and would allow much greater customization.
By the way, some of the perks say things like +10 and +15 health. Is it meant to just be the flat numbers, or is it meant to be a percentage based thing? I think percentages would probably work far better.
Edit: clarification, buffs changed to perks, additional suggestion(s)/feedback, character(s) changed to hero(es).
As I had anticipated all my gear has become useless. None of it comes with at least functional perks for the characters I main of the possible perks that could get applied and of the five scav crates I opened nothing useful came out of it either.
I personally think I'm done with For Honor. The 5 crates they gave out as "compensation" are nowhere near enough for what I've lost. With the amount of possible perk combinations and the amount of gear that has to be replaced I'd quite possibly would need over 500 crates or hundreds of hours of more gameplay.
This was a BS moneygrab move.
I know what they are trying to do and I appreciate it, I really do. But this just isn't the way to go about it. I wanna go on record saying that perks look to be royally f**ked, and I feel pretty betrayed after dumping all my steel into making the knights that I've had since release.
I mean come on, let's be honest what are we to expect at this point? I honestly really, really want to say "****ing great job Ubisoft and have fun playing this game" but, let's be honest, not likely to come in the near future because, with every quality of life improvement you guys make, you have to make something worse.
I`ll start of by saying it took since took you 1.6 years since S2 to do something more than tweak two stats by something that was so awful and you give us perks, which are in essence good (even though they`re not really balanced eider between "classes") and you have to make this good idea into some money *****, horrible design and lets not forget unnecessary difficult just so you have a way of making more money.
I mean I had my 2x refined main I got two perks 1780 and 800 points into those perks, so I did not get three perks, I just got two random perks I do not wish to use. In my case, I have every hero at rep 10+ and with 180 gear score. to compensate me for this Ubi gives me 5 crates and a horrible setup. Which means I have to grind all new gear on each hero, I have to waste A TON OF STEEL to make it viable.
That aside, and now what I hoped so much was for you guys to give us perks, gives us a way to make easy changes to our setup so we can use it tactically or swap around or have different setups. but then again, to do so you have to spend so much steel and fill up your inventory with an insane amount of gear. Let's not forget that it is made so unnecessarily hard to use.
I don`t want to sound condecending, but even an f*** child could think of a better system than this in a matter of minutes. I am so disappointed in this production. I mean you probably will make it better in a new 2 years of waiting time. This is just sad.
I wish I could get a refund of all the game purchas, steel, and this "expansion".
Yea I knew this was coming, so I stocked the inventory on the 3 heroes I like playing the most.
Nobushi gear turned to crap, gave up and settled on 2 perks
Valkyrie was ok, got 2 perks
Peacekeeper didn't have to do much and I have 3 perks unlock
Min-maxing to get 3 perks unlocked is a huge pain, and my ocd did not like it.
