HD Textures causes game to crash

I have had Far Cry 5 since it was first released and never had any problem with game crashes, until today.
    Problem:
I enabled HD Textures In the game this morning under
Option > Video >Quality => HD Textures [Enabled] and applied the changes & restarted the game.

Then I was able to play for about 15 min. or so then it crashed to the desktop and Uplay.
Restart of the game and multiple crashes between 5 min.- 20 min. thereafter.

Error code: Unknown file version (D:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\games\Far Cry 5\bin\D3DCompiler_4.dll)

I even did check the file integrity in Uplay settings menu for Far Cry 5.
Then I realized (just as I suspected the first time) that it was in fact HD Textures that was the root cause of this problem, so I disabled HD Textures and restarted the game.
No problem after more than 4 hours of game play.

Monitor: 2 x 24" 1920x1080 (only one for the game)

    SSD:Samsung 850 Pro 1 TB
    CPU: Intel 4790K @4.6 GHz
GPU: Asus Radeon ROG STRIX-RX480 OC 8GB

    Best regards from Sweden

[Edit] Btw. I did find the file d3dcompiler_47.dll (using Windows Explorer) dated 2018-03-27 under D:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\games\Far Cry 5\bin\
I wrote D3DCompiler_4.dll in my error description above, probably misreading the name.

I have exactly the same issue. Only got the game about a week ago and have since had a lot of crashes. Crashes occur every 5 - 10 minutes.

Disabled HD textures and the crashes are gone, so thanks for that, Klyvyxa.

    I second this.

I think this is the ultimate infamous cause for probably many reported crashes for FC5. Not about the data integrity, not about old/ new nvidia driver, not about overlays, not about overclock, not about background apps, but about the enabling/ disabling HD textures.

I would recommend reinstalling your DirectX and other supporting software. I would also recommend checking out our PC troubleshooting FAQ and following the steps there. Thanks!

Yeah, well it is not because of DirectX. If you install RivaTuner you will notice that the video memory starts to fill up during gameplay, more and more.
When it reaches the maximum in my case ~10900 MB (around there, i have a 10810Ti with 11GB memory) it crashes. Always...

Hi Baba_Lulu! Please note that we recommend against using RivaTuner, as it has been known to cause performance issues with Ubisoft titles.
For your high GPU usage, can you clarify what the rest of your PC's specs are? What graphic settings are you running?

Ubi, you need to stop being in denial of this. The same problem happens with Far Cry New Dawn. I uninstalled the HD Texture pack and no more crashing. Baba_Lulu is not talking about "GPU usage", but specifically VRAM usage. The kind that keeps increasing as with memory leaks. It's also not just a few people whom don't know what settings to use as you imply. There's performance guides about this game that suggest disabling HD Textures.

"Also, HD Textures are also the culprit behind Far Cry New Dawn crashes, so disable them and the game won’t crash."
