    *** Mod Support - Please! ***

    Hi folks,

Thought I'd start a thread on this to stir up some debate/discussion on the matter. I know the likelihood of Ubisoft ever actually giving us any kind of modding ability is extremely low, as they would need to expose parts of the game and provide tools and/or means to extract .forge files so we could edit etc. But...you never know...with enough noise...stranger things have happened!

So I'll just get to the point : THIS GAME IS CRYING OUT FOR MOD SUPPORT!!!

Seriously, just imagine what this game could be if we modders were able to get our hands on it. Would be majestic. Not to mention the longevity it would give the game and the community it would build around it. Just look at Skyrim, Witcher 3 etc. even years on there are still brilliant mods being developed and an active community enticing new players.

Imagine what we could do if we got our hands on the ability to edit AI, mechanics, systems, not to mention the artist, 3d modelling and sound design communities who could contribute their work and create a rich tapestry of community generated content. Bug fixes - modders could pick them off right from the bat long after Ubi has moved on or no longer has the resources to support. Plus the size of the potential modding community would create more collective bandwidth to fix and tweak the game than even Ubisoft with all their resources could muster. And the upside - it's free for them!! We'd do it purely because of our love for the game.

Look at the history of games and modding. Almost every single game that has embraced an active modding community has gone on to become the stuff of legends. Fair enough, I can't speak for the console base, but certainly on PC, modding is massive.

I know, it's unlikely given Ubisoft's past attitude towards modding, but let's just think for a moment. Odyssey is a game about choice. Ubisoft has realised that the most successful games in the AC series are those that gave the player a wide array of personal choice, player agency and freedom. It's the single defining characteristic of their most popular games in the series.

So I say to you Ubisoft, why not go the whole hog and give the community the ability to choose. To mod, and play this game exactly the way they choose to.

It would be a bold and brave approach, but one that I guarantee would benefit both your coffers, and your relationship with the gaming community moving forward, not to mention it would make a lot of us very happy indeed for a long time to come!

And with that I welcome thoughts, debate and discussion. And Ubisoft - this is your opportunity to engage on the subject with us, your community and customers, to actively discuss and not simply tell us there are no plans at the moment. The people in your teams who built this game clearly love games. They get it. So we know behind the corporate veil there are folks across your own organisation who understand exactly where we're coming from here.

    Anyway, ramble over!

    Cheers,

    Vahndaar

That's something that has to be planned for ahead of time. They can't just whip it out and make it happen.

Absolutely, completely agree, particularly when it comes to toolsets etc. But even basic tools to extract and pack the datafiles - a la Witcher 3 - would be extremely useful. Considering Witcher 3 came nowhere near to publishing another RedKit, the mod community is still vibrant even with the basic extracting and repacking tools provided. Modders then built the tools they needed.

I'm not saying it's an instant possibility, but something for Ubi to consider and encourage where appropriate. Animus Control Panel in Origins was a good first step for example, so they appreciate folks want to tweak their games.

What borks this idea a bit though is the microtransactions for simple things like increasing awarded XP. Which arguably is a single line of code being enabled and someone could mod in a few secs. So, I suspect, mod support would only be provided if there were financial incentives to them and it doesn't erode any income they would get otherwise. I very much doubt they would offer it free. But still, I'm curious to the level of support in the community for this as well as whether Ubi has given it any serious thought.

Ubisoft games where never mod friendly , and I really doubt this will be any different.
People been crying for mod support on GRW, ACO or Far Cry 5, and what, did not happen.
And main reason are microtransaction that Ubisoft won't make support for modding.

It's a bit flawed though, considering you can use trainers to give you whatever you want or need. I think it's smart of Ubi to make Orchichacum a server-side asset.

TBF at this point all we would ask for is Ubi to provide extracting and repacking tools. Personally I would only primarily be looking at script/code/logic editing and attribute tables.

So microtransactions and profits aside ( and for the record on the XP front I don't mind the grind, to be honest I don't think it's that bad, this isn't COD, and W3 and Skyrim all had grind, but I do take umbridge at charging for a timesaver in a game folks have already paid chunky sums of money for, and it's not even a buck or two but around 10-20% of the cost of the standard game itself no less to get a Helix pack. If players just want to zip through the main story then let them - isn't that what choice is all about?? Anyway, rant over.) even if Ubi would let us extract the files, I don't know if AnvilNext 2.0 has some high level scripting mechanism or if all the logic is contained in the C++/C# code. If it's in the code itself then yeah, it's probably not something we would ever get.

Still would be interesting to know people's thoughts and ideas and how many would be interested in modding as it is only through a collective voice we would get Ubi to consider it. And there would need to be a profit motive for them somehow I get that.

Times of games made with MOD support is truly gone. Don't think Bethesda will ever create another Elder Scrolls game with MOD support.

Greed is the master of the Western hemisphere, not culture and creativity!

As a huge Elder Scrolls fan and fanboy, this would be fantastic. I think the live events makeup for the lack of mod support. The events reward us with new gear, weapons, skins. It is all lore friendly which matters to some and myself.Mods would not be (Mjolnir in Assassins Creed, that's Norse Mythology not Greek) lore friendly. I have not touched my Modded Skyrim since this released, I love this game. To each their own !
