Everyone saying they're only on Ch. 2 or 3 and reached lvl 50, it seems like you didn't spend enough time progressing through the story. I just completed the MQ story line, and I'm only at lvl 44. I still have several Cult members to hunt down, the Arena to complete, 3 or 4 mercenaries ahead of me, and to avoid posting a spoiler, the "other" major quest line you can do involving finding artifacts. This feels like a more natural cap now, since I still have 2 major quest lines to complete, not to mention several areas I haven't explored yet. This makes the end game feel more rewarding, and the cap doesn't feel so early. I'll probably be at 50 before completing all of that still, but I'll have most of it done by then.

If you're still in Ch. 3 and have hit level 50, I feel like you must have done nothing but grind and farm conquests the whole time, and you haven't spent enough time completing the story. If you put more emphasis on the story, you'll complete it well before 50 and it won't feel like such a hard/early cap. I still agree that some sort of reward would be nice, and I am in no way saying you shouldn't play the game how you want. Although I'm not sure what would be the best reward for it?

I agree that Origins' soft cap broke the game after a while and made it way too easy no matter the difficulty.
Loot boxes, resources, and orichalcum may be nice, but after a while how much more loot/drachma/resources do you need? I actually haven't had too much trouble farming resources and drachma, and once you have the gear you want and have it leveled to 50, this may end up feeling just as hollow as no reward.

However, either one of these may still work if they're gauged correctly. 1% per level is too high for skill increases, but maybe if it's .5% or .1% that could even it out a bit? Or perhaps giving resources, but also at a pretty low rate, that way you need to get 5 - 10 levels worth of XP before getting a significant amount? Loot boxes for store items would be cool, but they would never do that because no one would actually spend money in the store then. If the pacing is wrong for either option it will either become pointless or break the game.

EDIT: I also like the idea mentioned above about letting players unlock all of the abilities. That should definitely be an option first, then maybe move to one of these other rewards. Sure you can re-spec, but maxing out every ability feels like a pretty great reward, and you can switch up your powers without having to reallocate 50 points every time. THAT is definitely a good reward and will give completionists a good sense of accomplishment.
Actually I've only done 5 battles. The rest of the time was killing Mercs, Clearing ALL "?"'s, and wandering around hitting side quests, and completing bounty boards. I hit 50 today without trying hard at all, thats why I'm complaing. Now every task/quest/reward is useless to me as I only gain the dramae/items from the reward. XP is going into thin air.

And burning straight through the story, in an open world, explore it type of game, is SPEED GRINDING. Your playing like my son who hasn't done anything but story. And I bet dollars to donuts once you've completed it, just like he will, you will walk away and go play RR2 or some other dribble.

Enjoy it your way. I've enjoyed it my way, exploring which maxed me out way to fast IMO.

    Ciao!

I played the game on Nightmare mode and got to level 50 until the part where you
    Spoiler:  Show
destroy Athenian navy with your mama
, because let's face it, navy battles are annoying and hard AF on Nightmare mode. I also just finished maxing my ship and took out the navy line of cultists. Anyway I agree that there needs to be more insentive to complete the map and 100% the game.

I really hope the XP we gained past level 50 IS CARRIED OVER ONCE THE CAP IS INCREASED!

Pass the information along? Is this getting fixed soon or not Ubi? It's not the first time the level cap is way too low in your games!

When Widow says it's been passed along, you can believe it. But don't expect a time frame or even a concrete answer just yet, this might take some rebalancing.

    Best to just be patient.

I think the issue is the rate at which you level up. You just level up way too damn fast. And the issue is that XP gain scales as you level up, so even though each level requires more XP than the last, the amount of effort to gain that XP remains the same. So in that case, what's the point of increased XP requirement per level??

I would've been totally fine if it takes increasingly longer to hit the next level once you're at the 30's onward. Because once I hit lvl 50 the game reverts itself into a regular AC game with no progression system, which is fine in itself, but is comparatively bland after everything before it.

Almost sounds to me like people only play the game if they are rewarded, not because they are having fun. I cannot relate to this mindset.

I dont mean this as a slight to anyone, just that its an alien concept for me. Then again, so is competitive sports and E sports.
    I feel just like you.
    Shaking my head with disbelieve.
People play games to get rewards, as if the gameplay itself is meaningless.

When they go out and meat friends, do they get rewards for meating them?
When they watch a TV show, do they get a reward after every episode?
When they play football, soccer, basketball with others - do they get a reward?
Games are fun for playing them.

I guess im too old to be addicted to being rewarded all the time. im just having fun with the game, stealth, combat, all that. At some point i will reach the level cap and wouldnt give adamn about it.
If the ACP will come out again with the option to remove the level cap than i guess i will take it. i'd love to get new skills. but i wont be suffering if im not rewarded.

I like the idea from page 1 - where each time you fill your XP meter you get a gift from the gods for free. This sounds awesome.
Obviously this goes against UBIs monotization method so i bet that wouldnt happen but it's the best idea i see so far

Talking about monotization - I think about all these idiots buying the XP boosters who get to the point where they no longer get new skills much much early in the game.... poor suckers. didnt think this through.

P.S. - does anyone know how many locations grant you free skill points? (i know there are a few where you read some ancient writing on a tomb or something like that and get a skill point immediately. just dont know how many exist, so i dont know how many skill points you can ulitmately have in the game).

    this is hilarious.

not saying the idea isnt valid. i see you point. whats hilarious is not your post.
It's just that sooooooo many complaints about how the leveling up is too slow to force players to buy MTX and then you get veteran players who ACTUALLY played the game come up and say the opposite - the leveling up is too fast.
    its hilarious. simply hilarious.

Oh wow, that sucks. I'm 117 hours in and just got to 50. I'm highly enjoying marking off all the little icons on my map everywhere I go and meandering around as I complete story objectives. I was fully expecting that post 50 it would be like Origins, where I would keep gaining ability points and could apply those points to the branches I had neglected (looking at you, Warrior) so I could continue to fully explore and enjoy myself. This feels like it is punishing me for being that much of a completionist by giving me nothing to work toward as I continue my exploration.

And for the "it makes the game too easy" argument. Nobody is putting a gun to anyone's head and making them use those extra points. They would just bank. This isn't a competitive game where that sort of thing could give someone an advantage. So what does it matter if they accumulate or if someone used them? If they make Nightmare too easy for someone, just don't take the extra ranks. This game even has a respec system so you can dial it back if the game is getting too easy for you. You can control your challenge. The developers don't need to make it annoying for others so your game is to your difficulty level.

Perfect example of how you just can't satisfy everybody and no matter what, people are going to complain lol.
This probably indicates that Ubisoft has done things correctly and has found an appropriate compromise for varied playstyles. A wise friend one told me that “in a true compromise, no one is happy.” Her point may be proven.
