No, I don't mind mythology. I don't mind pieces of eden and the explanations behind them. What I do mind are ancient ships with the maneuverability of a jetski. I also mind being able to hit a human with a sword and have that human fly away from you as if hit by a wrecking ball. And I do mind being able to sink a ship by firing arrows at it. Arrows that are not even on fire. Suspension of disbelief only works to a certain extent. That is why we are okay to read comic books about a flying guy who can shoot lasers from his eyes, but find it completely unplausible that nobody in the world recognizes a superhero just because he wears eyeglasses.
So yeah, I don't mind imagination, as long as they don't stick SUPERPOWAHS for no reason at all. I mean, the combat is spectacular as it is (as it always has been in the series) without the need to push it further into fantasy. And ship combat worked perfectly well in AC4, while leaving at least SOME realism to what ships can and cannot do. In Odyssey ships jut feel like motorboats.
I hated the naval part of Black Flag for that exact reason. Now in Odyssey I LOVE it and can't wait to go back on my ship. In Black Flag (even though I loved the game) I dreaded it.Originally Posted by DaelosTheCat Go to original post
Also, your character is supposed to have Isu DNA hence that's why he's able to use Ikaros and al this.
And again, as I said, with all respect to each player's preferences, to me the change in controls and the sense of weight of the ship is an enormous disappointment as well as a sign that the developers are ready to go to eny lengths in order to make the game easier, more accessible and flashier. Even as far as to sacrifice any remaining drops of the sense of realism and plausibility. It means that with the concept of Isu DNA they can quite literally make the next hero able to fly and shoot lazors from their eyes - cause why not? And the reason I (and other players, OP included) are so sad about this is the fact that this series used to be something else. If Ubi wanted to make an epic fantasy series, they could have just done that. Start a new franchise, set it in mythology, name it Odyssey and do whatever the hell you want - just don't call it Assassin's Creed cause it's not an AC game anymore. AC was historical fiction. Odyssey is mythological fantasy.
P.S. Also, I am no expert on AC lore, but afaik from previous AC games, Isu were not supernatural. They were an advanced race, but their superiority came from technologies they've created. To Ezio they were gods, but, as Arthur Clarke said, "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic". Or, in Isu case, divinity. So why should superhuman strength that defies the laws of physics be part of anyone's DNA?
P.P.S. ALSO you need to consider physics. If you hit any human hard enough to fling them so far away, it means that the force applied was sufficient to pretty much cut through them. So again, no Isu mumbo-jumbo explains this particular gameplay design choice. It's plain silly.
I for one agree 100% with DaelosTheCat
On everything you have said. I haven’t even played it yet but I have watched videos on YouTube of game play and that’s enough for me to make up my mind. Combat looks ridiculous the fact enemies level up with you is stupid so is the fact you hit someone with a sword over 10 times consecutively and you don’t even kill them is just insane so is kicking someone 20 metres away. I’m a massive creed fan have played and finished them all and I’m so sad to see where this series is heading. I’m going to wait for fixes and updates to see if it improves things and if not I might have to wait a few years for the next ac game as I’m not paying that much money for something I’ll just get frustrated with.
