I have a submission in for the mapjam 6 right now and it is sitting at 2 stars. I also have a previous, unfinished version that is buggy, less detailed, no fx, barebones, etc. that i used for testing. The test version was not submitted as a MJ6 map and it has a tinny bit over 4 stars. To me, this says other people who entered the contest could possibly be going through different submissions and 'disliking' the rest of the entries.
Now i could be way off, maybe my map just sucks lol. Point being, if you submitted a map and youre rating seems lower than normal, i wouldnt put too much trust in its accuracy. This is terrible for the people who want to learn from their work to do better next time. Not to mention the whole ethics side of things...
Anybody else notice any questionable ratings for their submissions?
You hit the head right on the nail man that's exactly what's going on, it's other Petty mapmakers thinking it's going to help their map when when it's not going to do Jack squat, also be aware that people are going to go out of their way to make multiple accounts so they can upvote their Maps this has been going on since Far Cry 3 and before I'm pretty sure
It's a great example of the dark side of the map making community. it's been going on for years and years. people will smile and be nice to you but down vote your maps at the same time. that's the mapping community for you. they sometimes work in groups to down vote maps. dont let the no life scum get you down (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE)they will just have to come to terms about the fact that you are a better builder than them and down voting wont change that one bit.
Yh its ridiculous, how some losers really wanna win at all cost. But the rating system gives these trolls the ammo they need. I keep on saying the rating of maps should just be one positive vote per master account. And thats it.
Btw i dont see thumbs down option on these threads on this forum, why in the game and not on this forum? Just saying
Its been this way since Far Cry 2 and has never really changed.
When FC2 released people got obsessed with ratings and statistics so some would only play their own maps instead of how it was with the Instincts games where everyone shared and hosted good maps for others to play.
The difference was that Instincts / Evolution and Predator had no map database so if you heard about a map and wanted it you had to join a game and download it from the host, there was no map rating system if you didn't like a map you simply didn't host it.
So with Far Cry 5 you can only cast one vote so if you have say 30 friends and they all vote the map up then it will get elevated fast but if new people don't vote for it the map will start to drop, there is no way to keep a map up there it is like a pyramid scheme and eventually a set number will have played and voted for a map and no new people will be playing it so that there is the end of the maps rating but the maps life can continue if people really like it enough to replay the map - so what I am saying is why bother with ratings why are some people so obsessed its all just a load of fabricated crap and deep down you know this.
Most of the maps in far Cry 4 that had good ratings on consoles were very poor maps so that proves it didn't work, the rating system has never worked properly in Far Cry games and it never will work because some people have chips on their shoulder, are dishonest, have friends who will vote for their maps even if they are not really that great and these same people will down vote what they believe are rival maps.
Then you get people who down vote a map just because they can or simply because it doesn't have their favorite weapon.
All I can say is if you like a map play it and if you don't like one don't play it - but all the drama and egos won't go away so why feed them crumbs it's best to ignore those people - people can vote my maps to the lowest possible rating possible and I won't even raise an eyebrow, ratings mean nothing because it is impossible to keep everyone happy.
Been honest though my previous comments are a little out of date with Far Cry 5Originally Posted by JoePolidoro Go to original post
From my own experiences this community is better than the previous ones, most of the guys who have been around through a lot of the other Far Cry games are less, some who were maybe rivals or who had a little bad blood or issues are less and it has helped having Featured Maps over multiple platforms as people can then discuss and play maps from other systems which brings people closer instead of all the crap we had before where people would bring up which systems are better etc.
People like Steve Botter who have supported Map Swapper through Far Cry 4 and now Far Cry 5 are also a bridge between systems and this guy has zero problems and has no allegiance to any map builders so is neutral and there for everyone.
There has been a lot less drama and nowhere near as much internal fighting so either people are mellowing as they are getting older or they are trying to enjoy the maps a lot more.
The main issues with previous Map Jams were some maps maybe not winning which people expected or some teething problems at the start like a voting system where people who hadn't even played the map could vote and Ubisoft had made some adjustments to help.
I think people can often take things way too seriously, just try and enjoy the maps people make and don't expect too much of people - if a map builder sticks to the same routine eventually they will get called out for not changing things and if they have a go at doing something different it can't always be successful so maybe we all need to be less critical.
Hopefully the next generation of consoles will allow cross play and all the maps will be stored in one location so there is no requirement to port maps and people can all play together n matter what system they are on.
I did the "MJ6 -" filter - here's the ranking (only PC) (04/10/2018)
