I was reluctant to buy Odyssey because I was afraid that it would be a duplicate of Origins just with another skin and story.
Some friends convinced me that it wasn't and I'm realy glad I bought it.
Besides the level scaling, which I think is a bad idea without an option to turn it off, and the high resource cost for upgrading higher grade weapons and such I think Odyssey is a fantastic game.
Odyssey has all the boxes ticked for me, fantastic setting, awesome graphics, good combat, nice story and as cherry on top naval warfare with your own ship, the very thing I liked so much about Black Flag.
I just experienced one large battle, the one for the Wolf, and I realy like this new addition.
So far I'm just level 11 and only 10 hours in but I'm realy loving it.
I think I'll be good for a lot of hours of fun and am happy with the direction Ubisoft has taken with the series.
I can understand that others liked the pure assassin's creed gameplay from Eizio's era better but I love a good rpg and personally prefer Origin's and Odyssey's gameplay.
Ubisoft, just give us an option to turn level scaling off and balance the resource cost for upgrading to be a bit less grindy and more fair and you've hit this one out of the park for me.
When this gets fixed you can bet I will get me some nice stuff from the store just as I did with Origins.
I know I paid for this game but still I would like to thank Ubisoft for making this great and highly enjoyable game.
I'm sorry but that is Ezio's theme aka "Ezio's Family" and I personally cringe whenever I hear it used for a setting that doesn't have the man, himself, in it.Originally Posted by jellejackhammer Go to original post
Ubisoft has decided to make it the main theme but it's so hollow when used out of context.
So, first i wanna say thx for this Great Game - its Amazing, its a Game if been waiting for Years and you did a great Job - but i stop Playing after 21 Hour and 22% Overall progress - why?
Because i did the same @Origins, it was/is an Amazing Game and for my Personaly feeling they not reach the 100% because i miss some things from begining: Add Beard for Cutscense - add Level Scaling - add a Harder Game Mode - after 2 patches and 2 Month of waiting you guys fill this Game to my 100%.
And the same iam wishing for Odyssey, like: add Beard/Hairstyle- add Helmets/Hoods for Dialogs and Cutsence - and maybe (for me not a must have but it will be cool to see this into the Game) - add Shields - after you add all these Things i will go Back to the Game and feel like a real Spartan Heroe.
Iam realy Proud you guys choose this Timeline and Greece for your Game - you make my Dreams happen
Now just add these view things and this Game will be to 100% Perfect.
A few points of feedback I saw on reddit that I wholeheartedly agree with:
To add to that, it also takes away from exploration immersion. As the player, I arrive at a new cool site, maybe a temple or some stoa - I'd love to explore it and look at the artwork and architecture, but first I have to stealth through 4 guards and a captain. By the time I'm done with that, I've seen most of the landmark and I've lost the luster I had when I first found it.Pointless Killing Objectives
It's awesome that there are so many neat little areas to find and explore... but why are so many (not all, but most) guarded areas. I found a random farm... under guard, House of Love, or a few temples for worship, under guard, and at all of these places, the captains are targets... why? Even if I freaking toppled the previous government and instated their current rule over an area, they don't care, shoot on site. Story related places allow me to walk in areas where a Spartan/Athenian cannot, so clearly me being a Misthios doesn't matter too much to these people.
With all that said... why do I have to murder these guards? I'm a merc, not a mass murderer. No one is paying me, there are no bounties on their head, they haven't done anything to me. Too bad, you're a target for some reason, so you're going to die just so I can "complete" the area. It just doesn't make sense. It just kinda dumb that I'm robbing and murdering at every location with no rhyme or reason.
Pointless Power Struggle System
So, given that we don't take sides in this war (for the most part), the power struggle between them remains mostly a non-issue for us. Who owns what area doesn't change anything except the people we fight on land and air. Prices don't change, loot doesn't change, vendor items don't change. Nothing. Plus, their hold on areas swap so frequently that all the effort I put into putting a nation into power is quickly taken away... and it doesn't matter. Who cares. It doesn't impact us much. I wish there was more of a reason to care about who owns what areas.
I wish the war had more of an effect on the world.
Also, friendly fire should be disabled. Too often I am attacking an enemy and my weapon accidentally hits a friendly, they immediately agro on me and it screws up quests.
After playing the Origins could not resist and pre-ordered with almost all bells and whistles (Ultimate ed.). After playing the game for a week the feeling is bittersweet, that is why you are finding me here, typing this text up.
First the bad news:
1. Some quests in the game are plain WTF - making deliveries that are 200 or so meters away? NPC is requesting that the stuff would get there in "one piece" (we're talking here about an invite to a party) and to top it all off no-one is even trying to attack me while making the delivery!? This is a joy-killer for me as the quest is pointless in terms of plot and activity. Walk from here to there to get 350 drachmae? Easy money, yes, but that's everyday wok for a postman, if that is supposed to be a joke, then it is a bad one.
2. The dialogues are allover the place - answers and tone they are announced in are plain terrible about 60-70% of the time. I love single player games and play them for the story, but also for the voice acting and visuals. In this case voice acting/dialogue options need to be fixed as answers do not match mood or topic. And do not even ask about lip/mouth movement of the talking character or their eye movements
3. As other posts mentioned already, the quest list is quite hard work - gets really long and cannot be re-arranged by, say level or expiry (time left to complete) - not a deal breaker, but it is easy to fix!
4. The sharks run away. Why? I am yet to catch up to one of the big sharks out in the sea. Every bloody time I'm trying to get to it, it sims away...that's some apex predator... The other wildlife is allover the place as well. Cities are plagued by dozens of crows that appear to be afraid of the player alone and no-one else - wherever you go, there are dozens of birds taking off the ground. This need to stop! The wild boars kiss with deer and so on. In my opinion wildlife in Origins was implemented a lot better, including different materials gained from hunting. This feels like a cheap rip-off to be honest and there is little to none incentive to hunt!
5. Visually it is not improved after Origins. If anything it looks poorer.
Now the good stuff:
1. The size of the world is simply stunning. If you ask me, it could be even bigger, but the way it is now is really great as well![]()
2. The combat is improved and more fun. Yes, there is repetitiveness, but still, open all out combat is good. The battles are also fun, for me they could be a tad longer but it is a nice addition.
3. The scarce viewpoints are also great, I like it as it forces to go and explore beautiful world.
Overall feels like a rushed copy of Origins with Greek skin, that recycled majority of the Origins assets but didn't bother to maintain the quality. I have played AC since first game came out. And I have loved the ones that were made with consideration and care. AC Origins was greatest for me. It had a good balance, some flaws as well of course but still it was great. Odyssey so far did not improve and I fear that Ubisoft might go back to the way of releasing a game per year, which results in beautiful artwork and presentations but a very disappointing final product.
The other posts that I've read here have many great points with which I agree. Sorry if I repeated some of them - got quite heated up while typing this up![]()
I want to enjoy this game, but IMHO it needs to be worked on before it can be enjoyed. Waiting for the patches anxiously.
Feels good... Gameplay is really improved, smooth as hell. The story is epic, like genuine AC! Finishers are much better.
...and my biggest fear - stealth gameplay - pure poetry. I managed to record satisfying stealth run vid - https://youtu.be/cwv6_bZJVfU - looks much better than Origins.
Congratulations Ubi!
I feel like this is one of those features that has gone from "doesn't exist" a few years ago, to "nice to have" as of this generation, and that it might soon become "expected and important to have". I kind of suspect the developers of ACOD love their game, understand where I'm coming from on this, and would probably like to put this on their list of possible features to consider.
As you all probably know, the Steam Controller allows the best of two worlds: gamepad inputs with an analogue joystick and Xinput support for precise character movement and combat, and a touchpad that can produce mouse inputs for precision aiming and camera control.
Tomb Raider (2013) was released without this support, but then Rise of the Tomb Raider had it later patched in (and it makes for an absolutely fantastic control experience for that game on the Steam Controller), and Shadow of the Tomb Raider was released with this support implemented.
Disappointingly, AC Odyssey does not appear to be one of the "good" games that allows both joystick and mouse input simultaneously.
That is, when the joystick is pressed, the mouse control is unfortunately disabled.
This is obvious because the mouse control can be used again, but then it stops the joystick -- and then once again, as soon as the joystick is pressed, the mouse input is again disabled. This automatic switching back and forth sabotages the possibility to have both kinds of input at once.
Is it still possible at this stage of development for Odyssey to not disable mouse inputs on PC when a gamepad input is detected, either by default or as a menu option?
This relatively simple change would enable Steam Controller users to use their controllers to the fullest and have a better experience.
TL;DR : Assassin's Creed Odyssey's developers should patch in the option to disable the control switch, or perhaps even disable the control switch as the default, as part of their love for the game and recognition that AAA standards require new features for players who want to try out advanced control schemes. I hope there are others here who feel the same way.
First impressions? Favorite game in the franchise. Only complaint? I simply can't get used to the headgear suddenly disappearing every time I entire a dialogue sequence. I realize this is minor, but it's very jarring to be walking into a cutscene with a helmet, only to have it dissappear mid stride, and then have it reappear once the conversation is over. For this player, it seriously detracts from the immersion. Loved having this in Origins complete with voice effects for covered masks. Crossing my fingers this can be added in to Odyssey. Otherwise, thank you for such an amazing game!
