Hi everyone,
I'm new to the game and I have a question about orochi's storm rush: I'm playing mostly as a Kensei and I'm struggling to consistently block or parry orochi's storm rush. I've seen some video where it's stated that you can predict easily the direction of the attack from the position of the orochi's body but I' didn't find any substantial difference until the orochi is really close. When this happens, I can block the strike (often) when I'm playing as another assassin but, with a kensei or even a warden, I can't change my guard direction on time consistently.
Any advice?
Thanks!
Defiled Dragon displayed you the meanest yet very effective way to counter storm rush. btw guard break is also an option...
If you don't have the time however (of course this can happen every now and then) I'll provide you some tips on how to defend:
keep your guard left. Storm rush fastest attack comes from the left (it is the fastest attack in the game). The second fastest is the one from the right and the slowest from the top. If you dedicate yourself to one side it is easier to concentrate on blocking.
You either do your side dodge attack (it will defeat both side attacks from storm rush but you will eat a top attack since it has undodgeable properties) or you block to the left and react on the other sides (if he attacks from the right its 500ms and should be blockable, the top is even slower and you can even parry it).
YES, you can use your zone/helmsplitter too to hit him out of his run BUT Orochi can bait this and you will be eating either a parry or a deflect. Orochi doesnt have any recovery frames (afaik) after canceling storm rush (instead, canceling it eats a lot of stamina). As an Orochi i usually cancel the storm rush running to see how the opponent react towards it. So attacking him while he is running IS risky. As kensei you can luckily do two attacks (helmsplitter/zone), so start with helmsplitter (in to side heavy for hyper armor so you can hit through if the helmsplitter whiffed) and mix it up with zone. Once he starts countering that, its best to be defensive again and just wait.
The safest way is to block left, react on the other options. Once you blocked left, Orochi can continue his chain, so expect a light coming out (usually from the opposite side, though a smart orochi will mix it up). And remember, his top light finisher is 400ms, a lot of orochi's will go for it, so block top after the second light and react if it is a side light attack.
