Okay so following the recent Season pass trailer for Odyssey, I think most of us are certain that the hooded man who attacks Kassandra is no other than Darius, the man who famously assassinated Xerxes in the first recorded use of the hidden blade.

While I'm very excited to have Darius in a game and will for sure be getting the season pass, I am still worried about how they plan on portraying him. I am specifically referring to his ethnicity. As we know he's been referred to as a Persian before, but this is incorrect. If I'm not mistaken, Darius is based on the real historical figure Artabanus the Hyrcanian, who was responsible for the death of Xerxes' son Darius and then proceeded to assassinate Xerxes in fear of his own life

I was a bit reluctant to link the article as it's quite misleading. Either way it points out that Artabanus (who may possibly have been named "Ardawan" in his native tongue but that's more based on future Parthian kings having shared the same Hellenized name, don't hold me up on that one) was from Hyrcania, which was a region along the Caspian coast in modern Iran. The people of this region would have been distinct from Persians, who lived along the Persian gulf in the south.

As for why he's called Artabanus of Persia; well he may have ruled the Achaemenid dynasty for a brief period, hence the title. Now regarding the article identifying him as a Persian, that is by far the most misleading part, and you can tell someone with an agenda must have been editing the article. Thankfully though this outright false claim is only skin-deep, as it links to the country Iran, meaning somebody who was simply born in what is modern Iran rather than an ethnic Persian specifically.

Anyway I hope the developers over there at Ubisoft will take this matter into consideration. Assassin's Creed has always been able to enjoy a reputation as a historically accurate franchise, excluding all the lore stuff ofc lol
