Give us a proper day/night cycle!

Ubisoft Solved Lighting Issues in Far Cry 5 by Looping One Day Endlessly

During the development of Far Cry 5, it seems that the developers encountered some problems with the game’s day-night cycle. The Siggraph presentation lists three issues in particular which arose; “Every day is different… Night looks the same as day… Physical lighting values cause too much contrast”. As a result, the Ubisoft development team had to find solutions which would bring the cycle under control. One of the solutions which the developers came up with seems to have been inspired by Groundhog Day; the developers took one day where the cycle worked better and caused it to loop over and over. By ensuring that the sun and the moon started and ended in the same position during the day, the loop was made seamless; “Tomorrow at 12 AM is the same as today at 12 AM.”
Wouldn't it be nice if the developers could re-enable the realistic day/night cycle they programmed into the game, but chose to scrap? Hope County looks beautiful, but feels so artificial, with the endlessly looping day and no change in weather except for fog (even though rain, storms, and more are available to use in Arcade). Having this available as a New Game+ option would be great.

I'd prefer to hear it from a Ubisoft employee. As a player, you cannot have that kind of knowledge to be considered an authority.

Ubi-Zoro hinted in June that the game was very far from being finished with a lot of updates planned, but he did not say anything specific.

/\ I'd like to believe that, but unfortunately KmarkoPL is probably right.

There probably won't be any more patches for campaign, and if there are it's likely to just be bugfixes (we'd be lucky to even get those now). The sad reality is that from a business perspective, Ubisoft would be better off putting their time, money and resources into other titles. Especially considering FC5 hasn't exactly been a smash hit.

You may be right, but I'm not so sure. Wikipedia claims that "The game was a commercial success and became the fastest-selling title in the franchise, grossing over $310 million in its first week of sales." Check steamcharts: all time peak players: 92,377, and that's a pretty respectable number (comparable to Skyrim), but Skyrim is a Steam exclusive game while Far Cry 5's home platform is Ubiplay so the peak player figure was probably much higher if you combine the two platforms. However, the sad thing is that 90% of that player base evaporated within forty or fifty days, and even the release of the DLCs did not make a bump in the chart. You'd think Arcade made a difference, but it didn't. Even the summer season that usually boosts player numbers failed to have an impact. Everything depends on whether Ubisoft considers the game salvageable or they just pocket the money from the initial sales and move on.

    I see two possible outcomes:
    - you and KmarkoPL are right and there will be no more updates to the base game, only bugfixes and Arcade updates (e.g. Faith is still missing from the editor). Ubisoft considers the game non- salvageable, but at least learned that splitting the main antagonist's head open with an axe (Frau Engel, anyone?) is more satisfactory for the majority of the players and probably offers more replayability value than any philosophical bull.... they can offer. (On a side note: you can have a melancholic ending but you should never render the player powerless. The player should never feel that their choices do not matter. The Talos Principle is a positive example.)
    - Ubisoft foresaw that the bad ending would have repercussions that might even affect the future of the franchise and prepared contingency plans (or they always planned a DLC that would not be advertised or even announced, and would be released before the Xmas season to boost sales). Remember Mass Effect 3. BioWare released a fixed ending (it was not really fixed, it was a player mod called MEHEM that really fixed it, but that's not the point. The point is that they attempted to salvage the situation.)

    We will see.

If you played previous Ubisoft games, you would notice the pattern in they development.
Soon as Ubisoft releases last Season Pass DLC , they stop supporting it.

Only games with online component been supported some way, but Single player component no more.

Patterns change. No patterns/trends last forever. Far Cry and Far Cry 2 did not have DLCs. Far Cry 3 had a standalone expansion (and the extra Hurk missions). Far Cry 4 and 5 had DLCs. FC5 is the first FC game to feature a customizable protagonist. If patterns did not change, we would still have an FPS game with a named male protagonist and without DLCs or a Map Editor.

I'm not saying you are wrong, but right now we have a statement from a Ubisoft Community Representative that claims "there is still a lot planned for the game" and it seems to hint at more than adding recycled weekly challenges and throwing in a few new objects in the Arcade Editor. Obviously it is possible that the CR only wanted to reassure a potential customer that buying the game now instead of waiting for a "bargain bin" sale is reasonable, but considering the initial sales figures, I think Ubisoft may have regretted that they did not release the game during the holiday season (an extra DLC focusing on Faith who is still missing from the Arcade Editor sounds quite appropriate for Xmas ).

As I said, we will see.

Yeah, nothing says 'chistmas' like a story about a smacked up junkie mind controlled psychopath.

To be fair, rain doesn't appear out of nowhere in the middle of a hot week in real life. Rainless periods will last up to several months. I recall someone trying to compare Far Cry 5's graphics with Far Cry 4's. The person brought up how the shadow is more detailed in Far Cry 4, yet shadows in real life will lose its detail depending on the distance between the shadow and the opaque object. In fact, the shadows will appear fuzzy and blurry, not a perfect silhouette. As for weather, I don't think it would make sense. With Far Cry 3's location, the weather appears to be hot and the temperature seems to be 28 °C or 82 °F. All of a sudden the skies are very dark, cloudy and the rainfall somehow arrives out of nowhere. However, the rain lasts merely a few minutes before it's sunny again with a blue sky.

Devs, if there will be no dynamic weather in Far Cry 6 - people will not understand you! Dynamic weather make game more dynamic itself! Imagine what a cool missions can be in the rain with heavy wind....or heavy rain mission! Why not to show the might of nature in its full.....with natural disasters: tornado, hurricane, volcanoes, earthquake! What a creativity for good missions! Epic missions! Depends of future setting, of course. But think about it!
