60FPS is not the holy grail for console

Let me just start by saying 60FPS is indeed very nice compared to 30FPS, and I think it is something I think Ubi should look at. The extra frames is a lot easier on the eyes and it helps by a tiny fraction in terms of react-ability.

Some people seem to think if Ubi made console For Honor play at 60FPS they would suddenly become parry gods, parrying 400ms lights left and right, but that is not the case. There are more variables in play here and the frame output is just one of four. If you play on a bad TV, over WiFi and with a wireless controller you would still not be able to react to fast attacks, not even in 60FPS.

    CONSOLE (my setup)

    1. The difference between 60FPS (16,7ms) and 30FPS (33ms) is roughly 17ms. Console right now is 33ms.
    2. A wireless Xbox/PS4 controller adds (this can be more if your the BT frequency is occupied by something else) something like 20ms.
    3. Average ping (if you run WiFi this will be higher) to Ubi console servers 50ms.
    4. TVs come in a wide variety. Some are absolutely terrible for gaming, especially if they do not have a game mode. Lets say you have mid range TV with input lag of 50ms.

This all stacks up to: 153ms in 30FPS and 136.7ms in 60FPS.

    PC (my setup)

    1. I play in 165FPS which equates to 0.006ms.
    2. I play with a wired USB-controller and the USB polling rate is 12.5ms.
    3. Average ping to Ubi PC servers is 25ms.
    4. Acer Predator monitor which has a BtB at 4ms.

This all stacks up to: 41,5 ms

So what can you do if you play on console?

    • Find your TVs game mode.
    • Run a wired network cable.
    • Buy a third party wired controller. (running the DS4 in wired doesn't help unfortunately. For Xbox I don't know)
    • Purchase a TV/monitor with low input lag.

Or you can roll PC. Ubi, when will you allow account migration?

I completely agree with Tyrjo. I sometimes wonder if people are confusing the difference between fps on console with the difference of people on console having such a vast difference in latency. Proper lag compensation would do wonders for console players.

Lots of good information there but sadly I fear it will be ignored. I made this case recently in the comments section of a video where the discussion turned to reactions on console v PC and regardless of how much evidence you present, some console players just will not accept that their equipment plays a part in the quality of their experience. To them it's all about the 30 fps and that's the only thing that matters.

i see this a lot, talking about how the difference in MS is tiny between 30fps and 60fps. it not about the time, it's about how the information is displayed. it much easier for you see and react to something that has a smooth motion.
not to mention that the lower the frame rate the the more times the imagine is not in sync with where it really is. again it's not about the MS, it's about visual how to take in that information.

it's like trying to catch a ball, if that ball kept stuttering as it was coming towards you, it would be much harder to catch.

I appreciate your concern with the info, but you are comparing input latency with smoothness, it's not the same, you can react a lot better to things that are smooth, it's not about being able to discern a ms from another, it's about being able to see better a group of frames at the same time if they are doubled or more.

That is very unfortunate. If you can't acknowledge the problems, how can you adress them?
