    Cabs Feedback Megathread

So i had a lot of fun playing the trials beta over the weekend, and since this was a beta, i assume that feedback is very helpful for you guys, so here is mine.

First id like to thank you guys on giving us the opportunity to test out the game and for taking our feedback seriously. I see you guys putting a lot of time into the forums responding to feedback.

Overall i was really impressed by the beta and i'm super hyped to get my hands on the game next year! Since this is feedback, il focus on things that id like to see changed etc, instead of listing everything that impressed me (that would be a much longer list for the record).

I will potentially add more when i think of more things to talk about.

    GAMEPLAY

    Difficulty

To put it simply, the game is too hard for new players. I wouldn't even be writing this section if it wasn't for a stream i stumbled into the other day. She had played all of the initial tracks and quickly assumed she had reached the end of the beta. I noticed that she had no medal on Lynx World, so i proceeded to let her know she had missed a track. I distinctly remember her saying something like "im pretty sure i already played this". She was new to the game of course, so it took her a while, but she finally passed it again, and thats when it hit me... you can actually FAIL a bronze medal!

And its not even like it was an crazy high time like 25:00 or something either... it was LESS THAN 3 MINUTES!!! Which is absolutely insane when you consider that each fault gives you +5 seconds... so if she faulted 12 times in a track (which is very likely for a new player) she would gain an entire minute onto her time, leaving her with even less time to actually complete the track...

This wouldn't be a huge issue if it wasn't for the fact that you cant actually progress to the next part of the game until you at least obtain a bronze medal...

Personally, i feel this is a REALLY bad move. Obviously most of us trials vets probably didn't even realize that bronze medals could be failed, so it means very little to us, but imagine you are a brand new player and you just feel like enjoying the game at you own pace when all of a sudden you hit a road block because a game that ALLOWS THIRTY MINUTES doesn't even acknowledge the fact that you have passed a track unless its under 10% of the allotted time so you have to grind until you are good enough to hit the time.

And grinding wouldn't be TOO much of a big deal if it wasn't for the fact that we are then forced to constantly play the tracks again later on for contracts to progress also... (yes, i'm not a fan of challenges, but il talk about those later)

If you are looking to get new players to quit your game early, this is certainly the way to go about it. I mean, the lady i was watching didn't even realize that it was the reason she couldn't progress. If it wasn't for me pointing out the lack of a medal, she was just one of many people who assumed the beta was over before it had really even begun...

And heres a pic of another person in her chat telling her she has finished the beta, just to prove this isn't just a 1 off thing:

    Contracts

Ok so this is something i'm actually quite sad about. When Fusion came out, track challenges were the single new feature fusion offered that i actually thought was a step up from Evo. Honestly, they were a really great feature, and with a bit of effort and some slightly altered UI, the challenge logic tiles could have easily been offered to the builders to use in their own tracks. Sadly this never happened...

Fast forward to Rising, and they are completely gone... only to be replaced with..... CONTRACTS...

I honestly don't even know where to begin with this one to be honest. Contracts are just straight up boring. Replaying every track just to throw in like 2 or 3 back flips or to pass the track in under a time that i probably already passed it in on my play through offers absolutely NOTHING in terms of interesting game play.

So what did challenges offer me? i'm glad you asked... They offered me a reason to explore every nook and cranny of a track, whilst being able to check off the ones i had completed. Sure, some of them were "do this track on this bike" or "do 10 back flips", but the large majority of them were actually interesting, which is something that i haven't seen yet with contracts...

The lack of interesting contracts combined with the inability to actually keep track of the contracts you have done makes this one a SERIOUS down grade for me. This is sad from both a riders perspective and an optimistic builders perspective.

It is of corse very possible that interesting contracts can be found later on in the game, but i am doubtful. Over 50k players took part in this beta, so its fairly clear this was a publicity move, which is fine, but the fact that the contracts you displayed were stale most likely means they don't get better, because why would you show off the bad ones when trying to make a good first impression.

    Challenges

Didn't enjoy these at all i must say. At the upper end of the skill level these just seemed completely pointless. i received a first time of around 1:18 on Lynx world and finished in around 1:13. The next race i got basically the exact time again of 1:18 to beat... so i done it again. Third round... yes, you guessed it... 1:18 to beat.

It wasn't fun, it was just a grind. Just another thing to clutter the world map and and cover up my medal display.

I understand that you are trying to think of features that fit with the theme of the whole world tour thing, but i really just don't enjoy contracts and challenge races at all.

    The Mantis Bike

As a predominantly ninja rider, the Mantis has me a little worried. Id like to see a few tweaks made to the bike in order to bring it more in line with the phoenix (evo) and pit viper (Fusion). Its hard to really pinpoint the changes id like to see without knowing exactly how it works, so im just going to make a few observations.

    - The front wheel suspension looks a little too stiff
    - Bikes center of balance seems a little off? (makes fapping hard and allows for some crazy wall climbing)
    - Gap between fender and back wheel seem a little large (Makes fendering thin platforms impossible)

Some people mentioned possibly creating a specific bike with ninjas in mind, since a lot of speed-runners apparently like the Mantis in its current form. If this is something you guys would be willing to put time into doing, then i'm totally for it, but if not, then a few tweaks to the mantis would be much appreciated by the ninja community.

I hope that in the future the ninja community is given the opportunity to test out the bike physics on their home turf. This is pretty important if you wish to move forward into making ninjas an official part of the game. If you do decide to allow some form of ninja testing, please limit it to just the ninja/extreme riding/building community. Having a lot of new players reporting that the game is too hard wouldn't be helpful at all. I'm sure there are many people in the community that would gladly sign an NDA to give their opinion.

    MENUES / UI

    The World Map

I really love the charm of the world map, but after a day or so it gets quite tedious to use. In fact, tedious probably isn't a strong enough word... I really don't like it even though i do really like it... It a tough one.

It looks really nice, but long term it really isn't nice to use. The map looks cluttered, especially when you consider all the challenges and friend times that keep popping up all over the place. Its also hard to find the maps you really want quickly. Sure you will get used to level positions etc after a while... but first impressions count, and this is an annoying one... Besides that, at the very least i like the fact that i can see my medals at a glance... i mean, that is when some guy isn't telling me i need to do 3 flips on a track... because id really rather see his face over my medal... /s

I have no idea how invested in the world map you guys are, but its a novelty that wears off REALLY quickly... If it were up to me, id settle for a more traditional level select menu despite it not having that initial charm of the world map layout. The improved game play flow will be much better in the long run, and you long term players will probably thank you for it.

Also... our friend in america wont be able to find any maps outside of NA.

    In Game Time Display

As a ninja rider, this one is a pretty big deal. Unless you have some next level quick math skills, its basically impossible to work out how much time you actually have left unless you pause the game and actually work it out. This is really not acceptable. I can get over the fact that you guys decided you wanted to remove faults from scoring, but we really shouldn't need to re-do an A level math course just to play the game...

If i could make a suggestion, it would be to give us the option to swap between the current time format, and a time format something like the following:

    Time: 10:00.000 (+00:15)

This would show us our real time on the left, and the time we will receive at the end of the track for the faults we have (in this example, the player would have 3 faults) in the parenthesis on the right.

    Leaderboards

Please bring back the 1 click replay. 4 inputs just to view a replay is overkill, especially when you have some free unused inputs in the leaderboard menu.

Also, could we maybe have the slow motion playback back on leaderboard replays?

    CUSTOMIZATION

    Stickers

Not gonna lie here, stickers are absolutely amazing for customization. I'm really impressed how you guys have pushed the boundaries in terms of customization with this feature. There are a few things id like to see added however.

Firstly, would it be possible to allow users to design sticker "groups" on a flat canvas and then save the group to apply it to clothing. Designing complex groups of stickers is kind of finicky when trying to do it on an actual curved piece of clothing, so the flat canvas panel and being able to then save them as a group would REALLY help with this.

Secondly, would it be at all possible to increase the sticker limit to 250 instead of 200? I'm assuming the limit is there for performance reasons so fair enough if this cant be done, but some more complex designs have the potential of requiring a lot of stickers and a slight increase may help with this. I didnt see any issues with 200 stickers, so possibly there may be a little room for an increase?

    Tattoos

With the ability to completely remove articles of clothing, it would nice it we were able to use all of these amazing stickers to decorate the players actual bodies in the form of tattoos also.

    Helmets

Can you allow us to take these off please? Sometimes a helmet just doesn't fit the look we are going for. You could potentially add a number of "hairstyle" items that are listed under the helmet section.

    OTHER

    Music

The track list so far is pretty cool, but in the age of Youtube and Twitch, licensed music is pretty punishing to any content creators sharing content on your game. I posted a video yesterday for example and before it had even finished processing, it had been blocked in ALL countries simply because i forgot to mute the music...

Obviously there's not much that can be done at this point, so i'm simply giving my opinion. It is likely that the majority of players (or at least content creators and streamers) will be playing this game with the music turned off, which is a shame when you guys have splashed out specifically to get good music. Its sad that it has to be like this but i guess that's life... xD

    Loot Boxes

I love loot boxes... And i don't even say that as a joke. The feeling i get when opening them is great. And there lies the problem with them... I wouldn't be writing this if loot boxes were limited purely to in-game currency, but as you have already confirmed, premium crates will also be available... By offering them for real money, you turn a fun in-game unlock system into a predatory money making scheme preying on people with low impulse control. It is an absolutely discusting yet sadly very popular model used in the games industry nowadays, and i hope a day comes when it is outlawed worldwide, but until that day comes, i can only ask you guys not to sink that low...

I have experience buying a similar product over on Runescape, It may be fun in the moment, but the aftermath is NEVER satisfying once you realize that you have MASSIVELY over-payed for garbage that you didn't even want, just because there was a CHANCE at something you do actually want.

There is absolutely no denying that it is essentially just legal under-aged gambling, and i look forward to the day it is no longer allowed in the industry. This is a serious issue and it ruins actual lives. Please look past the money on this one and keep your dignity Redlynx... Stick to outright selling premium items so people can just pay for the items they actually want without having to gamble their money away.

I am all for keeping loot boxes in game using ONLY in-game currency though.

Since I mostly agree with what Cab I'll just add what I want to say to this post instead of making another one.
About Difficulty: This is something i didn't notice while playing myself but there seems to be no way to see when you're going to unlock more tracks. In Fusion you had something like "5 medals left to unlock this event". I still don't really understand the condition for unlocks, but I'm guessing it's level based?

Contracts are a massive downgrade compared to track challenges for me. There even are some hidden parts on some tracks (like the hidden path on Rally of the kings) which just seem to be useless without these challenges.

I'm also conflicted about the world map. It looks pretty cool for a playthrough but it gets crowded quick and might be confusing with more tracks to come. Maybe a classic list that you unlock after beating the game would help with that.

Replays are weird to me. They are harder to access and you can't slow down anymore. Also there still is no rewind feature which many people asked for.

Completely agree to all. I quit reading at the rider customization, cause I don't care to much about any of that. But, the bike, world map, time, and replays was spot on!! Love it. I was really annoyed trying to watch a replay. I'll get a message from a buddy that says, "watch my replay on ****". I am also a builder, so I watch a lot of replays of my builds. I kept going to gamer profile, trying to watch a replay. Plus scrolling one position at a time, is really hard to find the rider you want to see. Bring back the 10 spot scroll, with individual on it. Plus the replays alone don't look like real game play. That almost brought tears to my eyes. I tried to watch a few. The bike wheels weren't even spinning. That would be the biggest mistake in releasing this game, without a proper replay. Has to be a one touch watch.

    Something

I agree with all cabbage especially the front wheels suspension it's too stiff atm. I like blazejps idea of adding a new ninja bike that is only available in track central and disable the mantis from being used in track central. Because allot of speedrunners seem happy with the mantis. Name suggestion for a ninja bike. The Ablatross

Great read, and I agree with pretty much everything you said. One thing tho, about the crowded world map. If I remember correctly the Stadium Finals works as a hub for all the tracks in its specific region (even maybe with medals displayed regardless of contracts? Don't remember exactly) which is a great feature. Then you really don't have to remember all the locations, you just look under the 3 xcross tracks.

Another thing I'd like to see changed, is that the cp counter below the actual cps would start at 1 on the starting line and not at the second cp, which doesn't really make sense.

Also a rewind feature in the replays would be nice
