    You are the bad guy

Getting a bit sick of all the hate for the ending... I really don't understand why people want/expect a 'good' ending...

How do people not understand that the whole point of the Far Cry games story lines is that YOU ARE THE BAD GUY.
At least to the point that you cause more deaths than the story antagonists.

    Far Cry 3 - You're living out a preppy middle-class *******s fantasy of being a hero
Far Cry 4 - You kill hundreds of people and take down the bad guy only to ultimately make the whole situation worse
Far Cry 5 - You kill indiscriminately, even more than the cult do, and arrive at a worse conclusion than if you had walked away

The endings are intentionally bad because YOU are the bad guy.

Haha. No. You fell into the trap of hindsight wisdom. Just because Joseph happened to have predicted the nuclear war correctly it does not make him right or a prophet or a good guy.

The player is not the bad guy. You did what was entirely correct at the time, based on the available information. Joseph was a nutjob. He preached about "love" and their Cultists killed, kidnapped, burned and mutilated people. All in the name of a "noble goal". Sounds familiar? Communism, anyone? "We are creating the workers' paradise"... with loss of liberties, Gulags, re-education camps, state censorship. Maybe the communists were right? And the Western powers were the bad guys to oppose them?

Do you think Joseph was right? A prophet? His entire Cult was essentially wiped out by a Rookie, even his hardcore military marksman brother, Jacob. Three bunkers, tons of supplies, hundreds of Cultist... wiped out by a single untrained Junior Deputy. How do you think they'd have fared in a post-apocalyptic world against hardened survivors?

So the Voice lied to him. He was deceived. If he heard any voice at all. It could have been auditory hallucination because Joseph had a pretty rough childhood, with a religious nutcase of a father.

Hope County was liberated, most of the surviving preppers probably moved back to their homes so chances are the majority surviving in Hope County will be local preppers and not Cultists.

If there is one thing to learn from the game, it is that you should never take anything at face value. And the only message it has for you is that you can do the right thing all the time and still fail because there are things you cannot control.

Wow....you really don't understand the world or maybe you just drink the Kool-Aid.

Far Cry 3--You are kidnapped, escaped and totally destroyed a international criminal ring and freed a group of local people AND if you pick the good ending your friends. Yeah, lots of bad people died, and unfortunately some good ones as well, but that was at the hands of evil people.

Far Cry 4-- You are put in a bad situation, stay with a homicidal maniac for lunch, or leave with another group of killers but who seem to be against the killer you know. If you go through with everything, you CAN off the next level of homicidal maniacs after the cutscenes of the endings...which I do, so in my games, I leave the golden path leaderless and with a good chance of my character being in charge. So yeah, the area can be set up for a better future.

Far Cry 5-- As per Mars DLC the ending is all a bliss dream....so no nukes. Now as far as the rest of the game goes....you have an issue with an Officer of the Law, protecting people from torture, drugging, death, theft, and enslavement?? Seriously?? IF, and this is a big IF, Ubisoft had made the Cult something OTHER than HurHurHur WE ARE EVIL!!, then MAYBE you would have a point.....but they didn't. But say just for kicks and giggles, that the Nukes do drop, would you REALLY want the Cult to be the dominate group in the afterworld?? You want drugged out Angels as slave labor, hordes of hardened programmed killers and a leadership totally OK, with the actions you see all around Hope county??

The endings are bad because Ubisoft writers wanted to be cute and make a statement about PLAYERS of their games, and that is they look down on them and feel they deserve to be lectured about the Evils of the game they are playing. Sadly the last two games they have come out and basically said, don't play our games.....well they are quickly heading to that, but they will also find out that means we will not BUY their games either......

Far Cry 5 and the previous games all have stories that make us question on the results of our actions and where is the line between what we find is just or isnt and what others think of our actions.

Those stories put emphasis on the concept of violence, the characters (Jason,Ajay and novice deputy) find themselves in situations that are out of their controls, the only way for them to survive those situations is to either fight back or flee, the thing tough isthat there are other peoples who are also trapped in those situations and it's up to you the main character/player to decide of their fate by either saving them or abandoning them.
Those pirates, mercenaries and cultists do horrible things to the peoples who live in the regions from each respective games ,and yes it is true that the character/player also kill those 'hostile peoples' in return, butbut can we consider our actions as something bad/questionable or a neccesary course of actions.

Of course killing those cultistgs doesnt make us as better as them, but does our actions will give a better result,a better fate for those that are attacked by the cult,we dont know at the begining of the story that some nuclear event is coming on the horizon and even if the nuclear ending didnt happened, would you really leave all the residents of Hope County at the hands of the cult who are taking control of the region by force.

Sure you could try to escape the region and comeback with the cavalry, but it might be too late once you come back with help, most secondary characters will probably be either killed or brainwashed by the cult, only you are capable to save them, only you stand between Joseph and Hope County being dominated by him.

If people today, when everything is more or less o.k, behave like that........for a little profit.......Imagine how will they behave in a big trouble, after collapse.....for surviving!

After collapse......you will beg for Father Seed help and Eden's Gate protection. And if collapse take place - it means Joseph Seed was right. In this case.......yes, drich99, we are bad! Through the whole game we were thinking that we were right .....we were doing good job fighting against silly cultists.....but oops! Real collapse in the end changing everything. And saving your life from a bunch of thugs that are not against cannibalism in post callapse world.......you will remember Joseph!

That's your story and how you see it, but my story and how I see it, is quite different. In the end, we are both sticking to our stories and views of the game, just like we do in the real world, like Democrats v.s. Republicans v.s Independents... Religious v.s. Spiritual v.s Agnostic v.s. Atheists... Capitalism v.s. Socialism v.s. Fascism v.s. Communism.... and on and on..

What???? Saving people from clear and imminent danger by killing those who are threatening them makes you no better than the perpetrators? Attempting to save people from being burned by the Cook who starved a kid and then fed her the roasted fingers of her murdered parents makes you no better than the Cook? Do you really believe in that nonsense?

So you think the hostages who were about to be executed by terrorists should thank the commando that stormed the place, blew out the terrorists' brains, and saved them from death, by calling them murderers?

It is a grave mistake to equate the person initiating violence and threatening others with the person who responds to the threat. And apparently you also completely missed the maybe only sensible message of the game: don't believe the ideological drivel that leaders throw at you. Faith looked so innocent, didn't she? Skipping barefoot among the flowers in the field in her white dress she looked so innocent, so convincing... until you found the note in Chan Residence, revealing that Faith sent a squad of Cult goons to kill Jasmine Chan simply because she dared complain about the noise of the construction. Or listen to her voice message in Whistling Beaver Brewery, describing how she enjoys the process of turning people into Angels, which, based on her words ("... evil taken from their lips. Never to speak a sinful word, any word, again. It gives me life."), involves ripping or cutting out their tongues (which explains the mask) and turning them into a brain-dead zombie whose only purpose is to follow Faith's commands. Did you ever question Joseph's declared intent that he wanted to save people? What the Heralds did to others was the same that they were subjected to in the past (some of the clues can be found in the game, but you also need to read "The Book of Joseph" to see the full picture, unfortunately it is a pre-order item, but if you really want to read it, you can still find copies on eBay).

So I'm afraid I must say that you missed the message or rather you got the wrong message. I do not blame you because apparently the writers wanted to be too smart for their own good and created such a confusion, not to mention the badly written main story, that I'm still finding possible alternative interpretations, but without any clear morale or lesson to be learned (other than the one I've already mentioned.)

I give you a hint: what if the Voice was the voice of Satan? The in-game clues make it pretty clear that Joseph and the three Heralds were the Riders of the Apocalypse (check the background colors of their flags, watch the load screens in their regions, and check out this key art image ). Think about the anti-Christian acts that the Cult committed: desecrated churches, crucifixes used for human sacrifices or simply thrown to the trash heap (check the Throne of Mercy Church, the cultists covered Jesus's head with a cardboard box and threw trash around the crucifix), denial of the immortality of the soul (answer the ringing rotary phone at the Last Best Resting Place cemetery and listen to Faith's message), plus the fact that Joseph never mentioned Jesus or Christ. Joseph is pretty much the Antichrist, the Deceiver, and if this interpretation is correct, you are doing God's work (obviously you cannot defeat him because the Antichrist is supposed to be defeated by Christ in the battle of Armageddon).

I'm not saying that this is the correct interpretation. What I'm saying is that the message that the game possibly wants to send is "never believe everything you hear and look for other possible explanations".
