I read an interesting technical dive into TCTD not long ago about the fatal design flaws that led to this game being such a hacker haven (I think it was on Engadget, but not sure).Originally Posted by moesuvious Go to original post
The biggie of course is that Division uses a trusted client system, which is always a HUGE "no no" for online games. I think we all knew that before, but what I was not aware of was that even critical info such as your weapon RPM is all stored client-side, and that it takes a minimum of manipulation to crank it up to say 10,000 while still registering the correct (850 RPM) number to the server.
I guess the mystery of "insta-melt" players is fully understood now. It used to confound me (and piss me off) that guys with an SMG two blocks down a major road could down me from full health in literally half a second, but I guess when they are spewing many hundreds of shots every second it makes sense and seems plausible.
The $64,000 question I have for Ubi/Massive is this: does TD2 have the same trusted client networking model? If so, there is NO way I am buying it!
If you read that article you also read that the only way to correct it is a complete rewrite of the code. That is something that would have needed to be done say 2 weeks after launch. The question isn't if they changed the trusted client model, it is if they did it correctly. The first beta everyone will know.Originally Posted by Sock_Monkey Go to original post
??? I've been reporting a whole team of obvious cheaters from poland weeks ago with a ticket and video proofs...saw those guys today, still playing quietly and yet not banned... Just played Last Stand a couple of minutes ago and at least 3 players in the other team were playing with obvious hacks and one was doing the D3 glitch. If you really want to do something against hackers stop counting on a report system that is not working. Look and investigate on players that have the best results and implement a proper anti cheat to the game.Originally Posted by UbiSc0ttie Go to original post
And please stop taking legit players for complete fools...
most people will call u hack if u have decent movement, min maxed build that u can implement well, kill em when they sweatin.. im on pc and its been a long while ive met any hackers. i use vpn and play across multiple servers, do last stand most of the time and have a pretty solid time pwning tards and getting called out on hacking when im just using a 8k firearms nomad build with house lel
I would disagree, and say that "some" do indeed do what you describe, not most. I know (and used to play with one myself) that cried "hacker" every single time he was downed by anyone, even though he was not that great a player. He was absolutely in the minority though.Originally Posted by LoneEagleDNR Go to original post
Overall hacking seems to be down a lot lately (I think they got bored and moved on), and what they are using tends to be a lot more subtle: see my quote about the Nomad who proc'd 18 out of 20 times when I engaged him, and some are still using an RPM exploit of some kind (I have 10,200 FA and 48% CHC on one of my builds and some guys can still melt 10x faster than I ever could.)
And I should add these guys aren't doing some spectacular chicken dance, so it can't be calked up to "skill," they just have god-like firepower and legendary toughness in one build, which we know cannot be done legitimately.
How certain are you? 50%? 80%? 100%? Cause it can be obvious when players are using certain hacks but not others. Plus while it may seem like some players are using soft hacks, exploits or other things we cant be sure. Mainly because of a lack of transparency when we are killed in game. Partly because there is none or little faith in the anti-cheat system currently implemented.Originally Posted by BEN2TAHITI Go to original post
Ive seen probably 2 dozen hackers in my 2000+ hrs of game time. But its likely more than triple that. Alot more. Unfortunately cause Im not given any stats when my character dies I cant be sure.
And calling someone a hacker when they are not should work boths ways. Some ppl just dont understand the mechanics enough to make any kind of accusation. If they feel someone is abusing the rules they should report them. Not make a big issue in chat. At least if this game had any credible anti-cheat system and process.
Sincerely tired of folks acting like we're stupid. Not everyone hacks. We know this. When you're walking through buildings warping around the map and using 1 bullet to kill another player - that's hacking. Pure and simple. I'm not talking about the "well they could be hacking", I'm talking about the players (like I just mentioned - shooting through buildings & vehicles; warping around the map and magically appearing behind you and in 1 bullet you're dead). There's loads of them. And when it's mentioned to Ubisoft - we get complete silence or a complete denial about it, and months later the same players are still at it. I don't PVP any more because of it. As far as PVE, I don't see a single hacker because I only group with players I can trust for the same reason - just too many damn hackers.
