Jiang Jun is a very popular character and one of my favourites. He is a strong and agile Heavy with good range. He has some depth but not as much as Tiandi and Shaolin which is perhaps due to his design as a group fighter. His Sifu Poise is a great tool for dodging, cancel options, stamina recovery, and some transitioning. In order to make him a little stronger in duels, I recommend the following:
1) Sifu Poise Cancels
Allow Jiang Jun to cancel his the following moves and their recoveries with the Sifu Poise:
- Twofold Slash after the first strike
- Mighty Sanction
- Mighty Backlash
2) Recovery Cancels with Sifu Poise
Allow Jiang Jun to cancel the recovery of the following moves with his Sifu Poise:
- Fatal Swirl
- Dou Shi Swirl
- Sifu Swirl
3) Attacking from Sifu Poise
While in Sifu Poise, Jiang Jun can only attack with his Zone Attack, the Sifu Swirl. I feel his Sifu Poise should be expanded as a transition tool. So I would allow Jiang Jun to attack from Sifu Poise with Heavy and Light attacks as well.
4) Shin-Kick Cancels
Jiang Jun is lacking in openers. His unblockable heavy finishers easily parried at higher levels and feinting them only gets you so far. I recommend following moves to be cancelled with the same Shin Kick soft-feint as the Mighty Sanction:
- Twofold Slash after the first strike
- Mighty Backlash
- Heavy Attacks but not heavy finishers. I don’t want 50/50s.
5) Heavy Attack from Guardbreak:
Allow Jiang Jun to get at least a guaranteed Side Heavy Attack from a successful Guardbreak. I would assume a 66-100ms speed buff is the way to do it.
6) Extra I-Frames for Mighty Backlash?
Perhaps it’s me but I’ve found a similar issue to Tiani with Jiang Jun where I get hit when I try to dodge and counter an attack with the Mighty Backlash, especially at start-up. Is this working as intended or does the move need an I-frame buff?
7) Extended Dodge Property for Mighty Backlash?
I tried to test the Extended Dodge Property for Mighty Backlash but I couldn’t get to work or I couldn’t see the difference. If it is working as intended could someone let me know and even show a clip is possible? The trait was listed in Jiang Jun’s moveset during the Open Test.
Final Thoughts
Jiang Jun is an iconic and very fun character to use. He’s strong in group fights as intended and quick for a heavy which I like. He has some potential in duels, however, I feel he could do with some more tools in this area as mentioned earlier but I faired pretty well in some 1v1 scenarios in Breach.
Below is a video me playing Jiang Jun in Breach. I’m afraid there is not exceptional performance here. It takes me a while to get good with a character:
Turtles usually don't make the first move. If they are using dodge feints to open you up then they're not waiting for you to attack first and, therefore, they're not turtling.Originally Posted by Atlas-D Go to original post
