It doesn't matter if you loved or hated Ted Kennedy, his traditional Irish wake wake had some burst out laughing stories in it.

Senators McCain and Hatch related some hilarious incidents they had with Kennedy. They made it clear that they often diagreed with this political views, but it was obvious that they considered Kennedy a good friend and had great respect for him as a statesman.

It would be hard to imagine two more dissimilar men in the Senate as Kennedy and Hatch who could be such good friends. Kennedy was a hard-drinking Catholic, liberal Democrat and Hatch is a tee-totaling, conservative Mormon, but Hatch's story of how he got Kennedy to speak to 200 Mormon missionaries (headed to Boston no less) is darn funny.

The best story though came from a former senator from Iowa. Kennedy invites him to go sailing and the guy being from Iowa had never been on a sailboat or on the ocean in his life. It turns out Kennedy had actually recruited him as part of his crew for a race. The overnight trip is one disaster after another.

Do yourself a favor and look for a repeat broadcast of the wake on C-Span or Fox News or MSNBC or some other cable channel.

Senator Hatch was on NPR the other day, or at least a program that was rebroadcast on NPR, and he brought up the story about Kennedy speaking with the Mormons. Classic.
