I was so excited to play skirmish upon release. Then I found out that the reality of the mode is that you either win 20-3 or lose 3-20, and the novelty wore off. Unless you play in a full group, the game is terrible. Do you want to play D3? Good luck! the cooldown on the shield is far too long after you respawn. I find myself having to "snipe" while waiting for my shield to come back. I cant use my cool headed pistol becasue there are no npcs to kill so I am forced to hold back for about 30 seconds.
Then you get a team that goes up a few points and then bunkers down in a corner, forcing the other team to charge in and kill them. Half the games turn into camp fests.
It's a shame they didn't make the game mode 8v8 (to stop the slaughtering of a 4 man team vs 4 randoms). I find much more evenly matched games in Last Stand.
I did not like Skirmish in the beginning and, as a completionist, I started playing it only for the commendations. However, the more I played it, the more I liked it. Don't get me wrong, I do not say that this mode is perfect. There are a lot of imbalances and lags, Chronus users, exploiters etc, but all in all, it is a lot of fun as well. Funny coincidence with your post - I've just got my last Skirmish commendations (No, no, no, Not Today and Skirmish Expert.) with a random team. Sometimes, you are lucky too. 50 points in one step, really nice. Good luck with your comms!
Disagree. It's the most enjoyable PVP outside of Survival for me. It's a lot more balanced than the other game modes and actually requires team work.
It's true that a lot of games are lopsided on the scoreboard but I think this is more often than not, because one team doesn't work together. They don't adjust when the other team has a team configuration advantage or tactical advantage. Players who run out without the support of their team, lead to the downfall of their team; no matter how many kills they get or how good they are. Sure it takes 20 kills to win a match but it also takes 20 deaths to lose a match.
I haven't experienced much bunkering down. IMO there really isn't much of an advantage in doing so. The way PVP is in this game you can easily rush a team by spamming grenades, using flame and shock turrets, using your signature skills or focus firing on a player. There are so many effective ways to rush a team; and as far as I've seen there are no places that a team can effectively corner themselves in with only one way in. Every map lends itself to multiple ingress points.
I've had plenty of matches where one team has gone up 10 and then lost because the other team "figured it out". Some people give up too easily. If you have a solid, smart team that is prepared to communicate and work together, you will be a lot more effective and will have a lot more fun.
The fundamental flaw is that matchmaking is rarely balanced. This leads to what you describe. There is no victory ladder and not separate modes for teams and solo players so every matchup is mismatched. I did manage to play some good balanced competitive matches which were the most fun. But mostly my team either won or lost heavily as you describe. This is one of the things Ill be looking to see is addressed in TD2 before I make a decision about picking it up.
Along with:
1. Anticheat process and measures.
2. Endgame content/lifetime.
3. Exactly contents for yearly Premium passes.
4. Server and connection quality.
5. Roadmap of content to be rolled out post release. (i.e. Gamesmodes that dont make release)
6. Pricing policiy for 5.
7. Strategy for dealing with aim-assist, script, macro users.
Mode matchmaking comes in at 8.
I agree that a solos option would fix most peoples complaints about all skirmish & DZ. It would be different if people used mics, but they never do, so strategizing with mute/deaf randoms is very difficult. I did play with 3 friends the other day and we played 6 matches and won them all. Only one match as close. It's like Ubi never thought about a decent team steamrolling over randoms and how it would turn people off to the game. People will not play a game if it is not fun!
What you can do is once you find a good team mate who has a mic, suggest backing out after the match and teaming up. Repeat this until you have a squad of 4.Originally Posted by meathead_79 Go to original post
