[Possible Unpopular Opinion] - 3000 Commendation score is too much for the Shield

3000 is just way too high for casual players to achieve. I am a casual player but I am a massive fan of this game will 100% be pre-ordering TD2 as I love this game. However, between work and other life commitments I just don't have a lot of free time. I've put 280 hours into this game (which I know isn't a lot compared to the majority of people on this forum) and have managed to get a commendation score of 1725 but the majority of the remaining commendations would take hours upon hours of grinding to achieve. Now I know I'm not alone by stating that I will never be able to get my score to 3000 for the shield and have been dreading this one coming out since they were all data mined a few months ago but I'd hoped the devs may have also seen that target as just a little too high and changed it.

To give you an example I've just spent the last hour grinding the first part of Clear Sky and in that time I have earned about 800,000 xp (enough for 2 field caches). If you divide that by 1238 (which is the amount of xp you get per kill in WT2 on Challenging) that equates to 646 Rikers killed. I need to kill 5000 Rikers to get to the next stage of that particular commendation and the same amount of kills with my SMG and that means I need to grind at that same rate for over 7.5 hours to earn 2 commendations and a grand total of 80 points (I think those two give you 40 each but not 100%, it may be less).

So that's my arguement. Now I know for a fact I'm probably gonna get flamed by a lot of the more elitist members of this forum who think it's nothing to play a game for 2000+ hours and have probably achieved that score several months ago. But this is for the (possible) minority of us out there that can't put that kinda time into this game and still want to earn all the shields (which I believe is the only goal left for me now and the only reason I log into this game anymore in the lead up to TD2).

If you got this far, thanks for reading. If you agree or disagree with what I have said above then let me know, at the very least it's something other than Pre-Order complaints to read about on this forum.

tl;dr - 3000 commendation score is too high, don't be lazy and read the post to understand my reasons

Ahh damn, I've just realised this is in TD2 forum and not the Division 1. Mods please move it if possible. Thanks.

Its alot - but look at it this way what % of players are casuals compared to the main game pop? What sort of number would you say is more reasonable and why? Considering what the point of the shield is - say most players have a com score of 500+. That means 2500 to get. Divide that by 6mths Sep - Mar. = 417 pts a month. = 100ish pts a week. Is it really that much? You can get alot of quick ones just by doing the first few pvp mode(s) ones.

I mean it's taken me about a year (or however long it's been since the commendations were brought in) to get 1700 points. Imagine what it must be like for new players. As for an actual number that is easily attainable by all, I'd say 1000 to 2000 should be enough to prove your loyalty to the game, considering how easy some of the other Shields were to get (and I've been able to get all the others).

Now I don't know how many people are new to the game or just play casually but I would suggest that it may be a lot more people than you would think, especially since they have had a free weekend recently and are trying to attract new people to buy The Division before TD2 comes out.

Also doing all the easy commendations is fine until you run out of easy ones and the only ones left are the ones that either require you to be extremely good at the game and have an amazing group (such as the flawless completion ones) or just require an enormous amount of time and patience. I have neither of those unfortunately and I know I won't be alone there.

I just switched to PC from Xbox and it only took about 200-250 hours to get 3K commendation. So....yah. If you know how to play the game 3K is not hard to hit. Even a casual player can hit 3k in 6 months. You have to remember that is what the commendations were designed to do, keep players playing the game. Still think the Shields should have had tiered difficulty and reward. 1K Commendation = crap weapon skin, 2k nice one, 3K better, 4K Epic. That would give something for everyone from the casual to the hardcore. As a pretty hardcore player I've given up on the Division an started playing Wildlands.... the Shields are too easy. I already have all of the rest done, just need to jump in an do the Legendarys when that drops, which will take 6 hours tops.

The second thing I think worth mentioning is that just looking at the list of Shields it's pretty clear that they are designed so that only the serious players actually get to unlock all of them. That gives the flag pendant some value. The 3K commendation and all exotics, and all Legendarys are a good example of this. I bet less than 10% of players get all the shields.

I would run through under ground you can get alot of good 20 to 30 point commendation's in there.
There are All enemy types in there so you will be working on kill X amount of Y enemy commendation's.
And you can solo on normal to easily get the 30 point kill 1000 enemy's with a pisol commendation in there.

And you can also Complete the "Hunter as Prey" kill 100 hunters in survival, underground or resistance to get 25 point commendation and also get the "Sting" mask

You can also equip 2 SMG's as you plow your way through underground to also quickly Complete the SMG Commendation. As the under ground is nothing but endless enemies..

All those alone should add up to a nice chunk out of the 3000 points needed.

(Grinding first part of Clear Sky Incursion seems boring and not exactly the best way or place to spend your time working on commendations)

But the shields are not exactly aimed at the casual player, they are a reward system for the most dedicated players.

I do understand your frustration though, some commendations are a true grind indeed.

Did you notice that the shields work in tiers? If this one is a bit much for you, maybe let go of the idea of unlocking them all, and just settle for a lower tier. You get rewards for every tier you unlock.
