Feedback on Tiandi
Pros:
- respectable healthpool,
- has good canceling options
- great mixup potential
Cons:
- is usually hit out of his heavy dodge attack
- heavy dodge attack is usually too slow to punish most enemy attacks that he did evade
- requires initiating a dodge light to counterattack
He's well built all around and I do like the mixups that he has (since he has slightly more mixups than Centurion does) and doesn't have to rely on a wall punish to get good damage in. One of my complaints is that the heavy dodge seems to be more of a feint tool that you should never try to land except on a rare occasion, and usually you get hit out of that heavy dodge immediately. I'm not even sure what the timing should be, because I have gotten hit on pretty much every point during the dodge heavy; everything seems to be able to hit Tiandi out of it. I even went into custom matches with both Kensei and Tiandi, and the timing to completely dodge any and all attacks is very forgiving on Kensei (who is not a dodge-specialist) while it is extremely strict timing for both dodge heavy and dodge light to evade attacks on Tiandi (who is supposed to be the dodge-specialist). I wouldn't normally bring this up as a point, but his description is specifically "Dodge-Specialist", so I feel like he'd need a little more than a deflect on just a dodge light to fit that title.
I do wish he had superior lights without dodging though, because dodge lights are extremely risky, especially on PC. With regular assassins, you run the risk of getting guardbroken. However, with Tiandi's dash light, you run the risk the same as an Orochi using his spin light: getting parried and (in the case of many characters) will result in upwards of 40 damage from around half the cast. There's also another risk associated with the dodge deflect in that your opponent gets an extra window of opportunity to grab you before you do the light attack because it requires a dodge first. The risk of getting a 22 damage dash counter attack isn't quite worth it if there's a huge chance of getting 30-40 damage to the face. I normally would consider this to be an extra mechanic you could use for fun, but again, this is a dodge-specialist, where his main kit is supposed to be focused centrally around dodge-attacks and dodge-counters.
tl;dr I believe the dodge heavy needs to have its i-frames fixed to be like Kensei's and should be able to successfully punish attacks that it successfully avoided. The dodge light counter attack damage should be increased slightly due to the high risk that comes with attempting the move if Tiandi cannot have any superior lights from neutral. Other than that, the Tiandi seems well designed and just needs some slight tweaks to properly fit his description
