A legitimate critique of the new voice lines:

    Dear Devs,

I have both praises and critiques to share with the team so I hope someone sees this. To start things off I am in the opinion group that understands & supports the decision to add new voices into the game; however, the quality of the voices should be improved. I did my own testing (a 5 hour stream in custom Duels vs AI) and I'm actually fairly ok with several of the new lines and the actors.

    CRITIQUES:
Currently, the new Warden voice sounds too naive and fresh out of the Warden Academy rather than a man who has seen action. By contrast, the FemWarden sounds exactly as I would imagine a veteran warrior. In addition, although my friend and I make axe-man jokes about the M/Berserker, can we please reduce the amount of times he talks about his axe or chopping? Berserkers are supposed to be wild men from the fringes of viking civilization. For example, more lines referring to life in the wilds and maybe some howls and animalistic sounds. I can't quite describe it but the new berserker sounds more like a crazed woodsman with a long history of unsolved murders, which is better suited to the Shaman’s character rather than Berserker’s, the female counterpart is a good example. The metallic-like, speaking into a bucket effect, on the Knights is pretty bad, and not to be offensive, but it is frankly a little too much and feels cheap therefore lowering the quality. The primary characters suffering from it are the M/F Gladiator and Peacekeeper who could use a significant reduction of the effect. The effect is fine on the Lawbringer and on most of the M/F Conqueror’s lines. Everyone else just needs a slight reduction. If the team wants to go with a more realistic approach then the ‘bucket’ effect (I don’t know the real term) should be removed and replaced with a muffle effect as that is what it actually sounds like when wearing a helmet, sort of like what the Kensei seems to have. The effect that is one Shugoki/Kensei should be applied to the Nobushi. Speaking of the muffled effect, I don’t know if it is a glitch/bug but Shaolin has several lines that sound like he is speaking through some sort of thick cloth like a blanket, I know he has an appearance option with a mask, but it would not muffle his voice that much. In terms of lines matching the character I think most of the characters’ lines fit them with only the aforementioned M/Berserker and Warden not matching the character, imo. Warlord lines never seem to trigger I tried several times and have a 5 hour stream where I tried to test all characters and Warlord consistently remained silent especially in comparison to other characters.

    PRAISES:
The new Highlander is perfect. I’d be curious to know who the team got for the role because he greatly reminds me of the Scotsman from Samurai Jack. The Aramusha lines are awesome. Shaman is perfect, a deranged dual personality disordered witch is exactly as I imagined her when she came out. Lawbringer is also perfect, so please don’t change his lines. M/F Orochi, Shugoki, Warlord, M/F Raider, Valkyrie, M/F Shinobi all have line that match their characters well. Also, I really appreciate how many lines there are and how there are generic versus faction-specific lines.

TL: DR; Most new voice actors are fine, but need some polish. Warden and Berserker should re-record, IMO. The sound fx applied to several characters, namely Knights, need to be reduced or replaced. Shaolin has some weird muffle fx on a lot of his lines, and Warlord doesn’t feel like he has any lines because they don’t seem to trigger.

It makes me happy to finally see an honest critique of the new voices, rather than everyone jumping on the bandwagon.

I personally like the new voices as is.
