alright with that out of the way, i don't think breach is necessarily bad, it's just not for me. Here's a constructive take on the matter.
To preface, i did participate in the closed test for breach a few weeks ago, i remember being exhilarated to play a new game mode in For Honor. While i didnt play many matches, i do remember inputting some feedback while it was closed, i.e. increase attacker live pool, etc., and although i remember playing it, i dont remember enjoying it all that much. The reason i point this out, is because i downloaded the open test tonght and was excited to get back into it. I loaded it up and started matchmaking but it wasnt until i actually got into the match that i remembered why i didnt play that many matches in the closed test. For short post reasons, heres a list with bullet points to consolidate the feedback.
1.30 minute timer
-Upon enetering the match, i noticed and realized that the time starts at 30 minutes.
while i know dominion starts at 20, dominion matches can be relatively quick. i have not played a full dominion game until "time out" in months.breach's timer is daunting, knowing that the match can possibly take 30 minutes. what if i need to use the restroom, make a drink, smoke, eat dinner? it feels more like a commitment to the game than just enjoying myself
2.Gaining reknown punishes you by increasing your respawn time
-one of my big complaints, but i understand why its here
i understand that the stronger that you become, regarding feats and reknown is justifiable (especailly in the later game) that if you make a mistake, you should feel the consequences. my issue is that, whether it be a gank or 1v1 situation, i dont enjoy taking a full 30 seconds before i get to play again, only for it to hypothetically happen in less that time. again, i understand why it's been implemented but your respawn clock INCREASING by doing well in the game is obnoxious and not to mention, breaks the flow of your play. sure in dominion and even in the duel modes, when you lose a fight, you're back in the game ten seconds or less (depending on execution), but that is paltry compared to losing upwards of 20% of the play time in a match due to waiting to play again.
3.Minions are just annoying to kill
-there's no crunch to fighting these guys, more akin to just slapping a wall with a health bar
this one is a hot topic. its not the fact that they interrupt executions and revives, thats a whole other can of worms. my main concern is that there is no enjoyability to killing these guys. In dominion, there's a satisfying feeling to watch that small quick animation and you strike a minion down, toss him over your shoulder, or even just tear a whole group down with a well placed zone attack. it's almost theraputic, especailly if your sodium levels are high. The minions in breach are in place for the reason of being an obstruction, and while thats fine from a gameplay standpoint, does anyone actually enjoy killing these guys? i mean captains can be executed, which makes it entertaining and also helpful while youre trying to cature a position, but pike minions? i find no joy in their demise.
4.The point of capture points.
-the padding of an already padded game mode
the point of the game is to take push the ram to the gate, destroy the gates, kill the king. the points themselves are completely arbitrary. Again, dont get me wrong, i understand why they were implemented and what the advantages are from taking them. I attest it to the same as my do(minion)s point, theres no crunch to taking these points. think about everytime you fought off a gank and stood triumphant, waiting to hear that sweet phrase "YOU CAPTURED ZONE A/B/C" and that had immediate, real match changing effects.
in conclusion, just wanna put some actual match experience in this post. one of the few matches of breach i actually finished tonight, was a victory. the attackers had pushed up to the second gate and the gate vs the ram health were literally neck and neck, basically the same pixel. a teammate assisted me with clearing the cauldron point, while our other teammates stalled the ram as long as they could. the cauldron was recharging and the ram was on the verge of obtaining the necessary speed to outrace the damage i intended to inflict. finally the cauldron reached full charge and i desperately tapped and held the action button to dump it on my very clearly expecting foes. when the final hit, destroyed the ram and the victory indicator appeared, i did not feel exhaulted, i was not even proud of what i accomplished. my only thought was, "im glad thats over"
and i immediately switched back to dominion,
my only suggestion for any real longevity for this mode, is to double the speed of everything involved, maybe with the exception of the king. playing on either the attacking or defending side, i never felt any real accomplishments while capturing the points, killing minions and players, or destroying the gates. It just takes to long to accomplish anything in this game type, and it may be due to impatience and entitlement but the game mode takes too much time to be thoroughly enjoyable for the full extent of the time it takes to complete the match.
