Basic idea (credit owed to Naughty Dog's, "The Last of Us" MP [i.e. Factions]): PvP Dominion (for ex.) could have two different modes - 1) a "parties allowed" mode, and 2) a "no parties" mode. The only difference between the modes would be that in the "no parties" mode, 2 teams of 4 people would be assembled from a collective of 8 individuals, whereas in the "parties allowed" mode, 2 teams of 4 people could be assembled from any combination of participants choosing to play in that mode (i.e. an individual + a 3 person preformed group OR 2 groups of 2 people OR 2 individuals and a 2 person group OR 4 individuals).

My rationale: I'm not always in a group with friends, and prefer fighting humans over bots ... Which means PvP Dominion. However, PvP matches can quickly become damn-near impossible (and frustrating) when facing an organized/coordinated group of 4 people - especially if teamed-up with a bunch of clueless randoms like myself . Perhaps this could facilitate match-making balance by employing a new and beneficial metric?
