    Question about AI squad members

It seems if I don't order my squad members to shoot at the enemy they frequently just stand and don't do anything. If I order them to shoot at the enemy they move away from me and "hunt" the enemy.

Is there a way to get them to shoot at the enemy but also keep them close so I have backup?

They’ll only attack enemies without your order when they become Engaged (and yes, they can be Hunted or Engaged independantly of you).

A Hunted state alone is not enough for them to fire at will.

The only way I've gotten them to engage the enemy since SO2, is the goto, then fire commands; which doesn't bother me because I make a lot of use of the commands generally anyway. I've even found that you have to get them to a vantage point, the tell them to Hold, so they have a clear sync and can provide overwatch. Otherwise it's like, "Target acquired-LOST MY TARGET!" ad nauseum..

When I did the R6 mission "No HUD", they literally let a SBC guard run right up behind me to get in my face. Didn't lift a finger. -- and I'm not sure whether that's cool or not, because you can't rely on whether they are actually using suppressors or not anyway.

One of this statements do not make sense... and it has been hash, rehash and infinite rehash that the ai teammates are as smart as a door knob and no amounts of excuses will make sense... open world or not.

Now, you either take it up the chute or hope they grow a spine and fix it for the next game or do what most asked here... the option to go Lone Wolf.

Makes no sense to me because GR was all about commanding 3 squads not 3 dumb as a rock disco muchachos you hired in Ecuador on your way to Bolivia.

OP... they are only good for 2 things... revive when they feel like it and sync shot with or without line of sight... and your miles may very. Now, being said that I guess the more hours you play the game the more crutches or work=arounds you will find for them and eventually fin d ways to use them as you want but they will never save you from the guy who happen to spawn right behind you.

Personally I've found constantly spamming the "regroup" order also helps keep them moving with you and fighting as a team if you're actively engaged.

If they are not commanded at all they simply creep around avoiding detection. Giving them any command from the wheel causes them to break their magical stealth (that lets them crouchwalk right in front of enemies without detection) and has the potential to get them spotted and engaged.

But if you're engaged already and you call for them to regroup on you with will fight your way to you, so if you can just hunker down for a moment you should be fine.

I've also found that to be the case.

What has ANY of that have to do with how to make them work? What "excuses" trippa? We're trying to provide practical ideas and you jump in and say, "They suck, don't bother". Ok, "and?" -- Every man and his dog already knows that, so how does that help the OP.. f-o-s mf, get a grip!

    From my experience:

If you use Hold position, you are far away enough, and they were found out, they will stay still until you command Fire or Regroup.

But sometimes they will also say "I'm shooting these f*ckers" and they will fight on their own without moving too far away.

I'm not sure if the cause of them staying still is because of the Hold. Because if I use Go To command, they will also stay where they should be, but they will be more active.

    @ OP:
If you want to get them close to you, use the Go To command often. Sync Shot would be the only thing for you to make them shoot accordingly. If you use Fire, but don't want to make them stray too far, keep them in check with Regroup command. Sometimes they disobey you and keep shooting. When that happens, just leave. They must be on killing frenzy and there's nothing you can do until they feel it's 'safe' to move.

That is so annoying when they do that (often) at the worst possible times. Like trying to decrease alert levels. You tell'em to regroup, which they do for a split second, then suddenly go back and re-engage! We're trying make like a hole in the ground they just bound and get shot up, lol! I'm in a bush face-to-face with the ants, reading the branding on their shoes not 2' away..
