Naval Combat in Assassins Creed Odyssey

    Hey folks!

So as you may or may not know, the team at Ubisoft Singapore did some work on Assassins Creed Odyssey helping Ubisoft Quebec out with the naval combat side of things (unless I'm horrendously mistaken).

I've been watching some gameplay of the naval combat in Assassins Creed Odyssey and honestly I can really see some similarities between the combat there and in Skull & Bones, even if the mechanics are stripped down a lot in AC: Odyssey. It's faster paced, it's much more tactically based and focused on loadouts etc, the only difference is that AC: Odyssey has a bit more of a fleshed out boarding mechanic.

Any of you thinking on picking up Odyssey? It may keep our naval urges satisfied until we get our hands on Skull & Bones:

Hell yes! Origins was the first game in the series after Black Flag that I picked up. Neither Unity nor Syndicate appealed to me, but from the moment I saw Origins' release trailer, I fell in love with the game, bought it on release day and played the living daylights out of it. Finished it twice. Got a platinum trophy. Loved every single moment of the game. And now that they're offering me Assasin's Creed: Titan Quest, we'd need another mass extinction event to stop me from getting Odyssey

I have both AC Odyssey and AC Black Flag. Black Flag was my favourite game for years. I played it through 5 or 6 times. I fought many naval battles in both games, but honestly I have to say that they were a million times better in Black Flag.

In Odyssey the boarding is terribly boring: You just jump to the enemy’s ship, and slaughter every single one of them. (For a minimal variability you can kick them off the board too.)

In Black Flag you got some objectives at the beginning of the boarding. (These were 1-3 of the followings: Blow up the gunpowder barrels / cut down the flag / kill the captain / kill the scouts / kill the officers / kill a number of the crew)
You could swing on ropes to the enemy’s ship; you could climb up to the masts; you could use the small cannons during boarding; and not just kill enemies, but disarm or throw them trough.

В Одисее. Поведение кораблей на волнах, не очень то вдохновляюще.Словно щепка в ручье.
    Надеюсь переработают механику.
In Odisey. Behavior of the ships on waves, not really that is inspiring. As if a chip in a stream.
    I hope will process mechanics.

Vingl, do you feel the animation and movement of ships in Odyssey didn't live up to your expectation?

I have heard a few accounts of the contrary so just curious what points you feel would need improving and are you hoping it will be different in Skull & Bones?

Нет ощущения веса - корабля, в Одиссее.
There is no feeling of weight - the ship, in the Odyssey.

Naval Combat is kinda hit and miss in Odyssey ,,,,, I mean it really sucks until you mega-grind enough to spend 10,000 pieces of wood, 10,000 pieces of ore and 30,000 Dracmea and 3 dozen 'ancient tablets' and a few hundreds pieces of obsidian and gems to get the ship upgraded to a decent level (purple Epic Level) and by that time you've already done all the story naval missions and likely 90% of the main story line is done

So the ship becomes more of a mode of transportation in the game until you are finished with the main story and get the ship upgraded to a decent level .... However once upgraded it does become fairly responsive but during most of the game missions your ship as the maneuverability of a rock and by the time you can afford the steep cost of upgrading (Basically you have to kill about 2 dozen Mercs above you to get to the tier 4 50% ship upgrade discount) the game is mostly over with
