I was a bit bored and thought to myself: much of the feedback given is negative and rightly so, because improving what's bad can make a game better. However, if Ubisoft ever does a sequel, I reckon it's just as important that they know what was good, right? Here's a list of positive things about Ghost Recon Wildlands, that I am willing to expand or adjust depending on feedback.
Bolivia: the map/the world
I think Ghost Recon WIldlands has a very good map. Many open world games have failed because the map was bad, blunt, because regions all felt the same, but despite being set in the modern era Ubisoft got the map right in my opinion. From snowy mountains, to swamps, to urban areas, to a salt lake, to tropical forests: everything's there! The variation in terms of regions works well with the customisation system aswell, as you can create different uniforms for each region, which only adds to the immersion. All in all I think Ubisoft did a great job on the map.
The only thing, but it is possible that it is engine related, that I'd like to see improved is the amount of NPCs walking around. The cities feel a bit abandoned. There's a lack of vehicles driving through and it appears there are more civilians traveling by the roads, than in the city streets.
Customization
While the customization system is still receiving many suggestions, I definetly think it is one of the better ones out there. Sure, some aspects are lacking, but being able to choose from many bits of headwear, to tops, to vests, to pants, to boots, is definetly a positive feature. Being able to get an emblem aswell, to truly add something personal (despite them being premade) only makes it better.
What I'd like to see improved isn't something you wouldn't expect, but simply a bit more options. More options for helmets like TheSgtUltra suggested: https://forums.ubi.com/showthread.ph...idea-(Picture) and more options for vests and weapons would be sick. For weapons it'd be nice to be able to choose more options on where to place attachments.
Vehicles
While the driving mechanics are somewhat lacking in my opinion, I do think there's a nice variety of vehicles and I am especially glad that you are able to get vehicles such as Blackhawks, Humvees and Little Birds (going for the easy names so everyone knows what I mean), because I am pretty sure many people prefer the military aspect of the game and these vehicles are the ones we have seen in so many movies and, of course, they have all been used and are still being used by many armies out there.
What I'd like to see improved is maybe the weapons the vehicles have on them. Mini guns are a tad overkill for groundvehicles in my opinion. Other than that I'd say driving mechanics could use some tuning. Other than that I would prefer having ATVs over motorcycles. I think ATVs are just more practical for military use.
Other than that some vehicles should get a speed boost. Some cars look very fast, but when you drive them it feels like you're driving a blyatmobile
Choice of weapons
This kinda goes hand in hand with customisation, but I am quite satisfied with the amount of weapons you can choose from. Whether you prefer your Russian AK, your Belgian Scar or your American M4A1, it's all there. Aside from that you have many well known weapons such as the MP5, Mk48, your 50 cal. snipers, Hk416 (since the last update) and many more weapons that in my opinion should be in any game.
To be honest, I don't really have any improvements here. If these weapons make it into the next game with more customisation options, I'd be a happy man.
Mission system
While it is a system that could use some work in terms of freedom, I definetly like how you can choose which one you do whenever you want. Especially when you die in Ghost Mode for instance, I prefer to start in a different region the next time, so the game feels less repetitive. I really think this is the best way to go about it for an open world game. I also like how you need to gather intel before diving deeper into the ins and outs of a region.
What I'd like to see improved is the freedom you get with some of the missions, or rather, the lack of (sometimes). For example, when capturing Baro, you know you're about to get ambushed (it's even mentioned by the NPCs) yet you have no choice but to walk right into it. Surely it would make sense if the NPCs were already spawned in and you could ambush the ambush, before going in, if you'd prefer that? <-- That's just an example.
Concept
I liked how Wildlands tackled the drug war. It just felt a bit more realistic than your casual ''Russia invades the world'' or ''China is the enemy, USA saves us!!!' that CoD for instance chooses quite often. I hope the next game (if they make one) will have a concept that makes sense aswell, like the Afghan war, or the drug war in Mexico, just something that actually happened (or happends), so you can truly immerse yourself.
Sounds
Firing weapons in Ghost Recon Wildlands just feels satisfying. This is something that modern games such as Battlefield and Call of Duty utterly fail at. I lack the knowledge to know if they sound 'real' when compared to guns they're based of IRL, but all in all I enjoy having firefights, despite the AI hitting through bushes and walls and what not. What I love especially, is the sound of firing inside a tunnel. I wish there were more tunnel missions!
Other than that, I quite like vehicle sounds. Cars are nothing special, although I would criticize that some cars sound like they should be going a lot faster than they really go.
COOP
Something I have not got to experience myself (I've got no friends rip), but it deserves a mention no less. The open world offers great possibilities for COOP play. Using vehicles such as Humvees and Helicopters only becomes more fun when you have actual friends to shoot the miniguns, or snipe from choppers. The options are endless. Having said that, I am convinced that Ubisoft is aware of this, so I doubt they'd ever get rid of it (COOP)
I'll leave it for what it is now, I will probably expand it based on feedback (if people bother to read it all and write some)![]()
I’m making a habit of agreeing with you jens, but you’re absolutely bang on the money as far as I’m concerned.
Customization was great, although more options would always be welcome)
Weapon choice was good and the map and transitions between them was absolutely it’s strongest point.. it’s The most realistic visually for me just because of this!
It's great that you've took the time to provide such a list of feedback, and of course that it's in the angle of positives.
We do rely on your feedback to fix issues and improve the game, but equally as important is of course the points you already think are working. Rest assured we're reading through and keeping an eye on the continued discussion.
you hit the nail on the head with this
this is the reason why grw was my personal goty for 2017 there is just nothing like it on console
all these reasons are why I fell in love with the game and if they can continue to improve upon these reasons for this game or the next I will continue to be very happy with this game
As far as the core game / gameplay (excluding DLC, T1, etc.), your opinions essentially echo mine.
I would add that I had been following the game since it was announced. I was hooked on their vision for the game as a "play as you want to play" experience. I also loved the departure from the usual bullet sponge, RPG mechanics toward a more "realistic", tactical feel. With a few options selected, I like that I can die from just a couple shots just as enemies do.
IMO, GRW was the closest we've had to a milsim-like title in a long time on console. I just hope GRW2 (if there ever is one) builds on these characteristics that drew me to this game in the first place.
Co-op ranks up there as one of the most memorable, fun experiences I have had in game to date. .....which is saying a lot as I've been gaming since the 70s. I've met some good, online friends that will stick together through future titles. GRW will go down as one of my personal favorites.
Well, I thought you wanted this thread just to be about positive aspects. ....'cause if we're talkin' about being critical, I got a laundry list I could give ya.Originally Posted by JensDekkersNL Go to original post![]()
