Been wondering ever since starting; when tagging a captain there's a bit of info regarding his "troops" are more apt to surrender if he's downed first (words to that effect).
Haven't seen anything take place which supports that statement. Am I missing something in game play that would result in the other/most/some/a few NPCs go into the "surrender" posture?
I don't think they surrender---or almost never---I think it just triggers some footsoldiers to have "cautious" or "cowardly" AI.Originally Posted by MikeWeeks Go to original post
I've seen SB footsoldiers who are not pilots flee in vehicles. Can happen sometimes when taking out supply chopper contingents. You make sure to kill the pilot in the initial salvo, of course, but a random footsoldier you miss may steal the chopper anyway!
I think mostly they are just less likely to WITNESS ME! at you if their captain/s is/are down.
The only ones I ever noticed that surrender are HVTs, drivers of supply vehicles in convoys, etc. I've never really noticed a change in the behavior of the enemy when you take a captain out.
Maybe I'm missing something but as GMT said, there are things they talked about during development that simply never materialized in the game. This may have been one of them where the description was written but the mechanic never put in place for whatever reason.
Last night had a SBC helo pilot surrender after several pistol hits close up, which ruined everything at the base (which included the rebel supply mission). Never had that previously. Only had three NPCs left for a clean stealthy run.Originally Posted by Pierr07 Go to original post
For a split second maybe. They rally pretty quickly. From what I could tell, they go from suppression to then beeline for cover. That's only when you're engaged CQB. At range there's no real effect, they beeline for cover because you're sniping, whether the Capt. goes down or not. That's about it.
So literally the only effect is that you've taken the initiative from them. Which, y'know is ok. Having that initiative allows you to multiply force.
