I made a couple posts on reddit asking ppl's opinions on the characters and who needed or not a rework; and one thing everyone seemed to agree on, is that Shaman doesn't need a rework or nothing.
So, if she is fine, why the hate? If ppl don't feel she needs tweaking that must mean she's balanced right?
There was a thread about that just a couple of months ago. You might wanna search for that one for your answer.
She's pretty ok, but she still has some bs stuff going for her which could have been easily addressed but was not touched somehow. For instance I really don't get why she gets her full stamina (even when OOS) back after a bite and why it has to deal the dmg it deals. 10 dmg less or so would do the deed well enough I think. Other points are: her huge throwing distance that could use a reduction and wild cat's rage distance and speed. Throwing distance is a bit to high for an assassin and since she has good tools to get a GB this easily means instant death on many dominion maps.
Wild Cat's Rage was always a one of kind move. The much better version of orochi's storm rush. Very quick with multi-directional input possibility and absurd fast jumping animation and distance. Very similar to warden's valient breakthrough now and people hate that too, although I see WCR still as a the better and faster one.
All these things are however manageable and so she is for me in a solid A tier possition. The hate lingering most likely remains from her release and that she was much better than all the other heroes, plus apparently people don't like to be grapped, held down and be bitten.![]()
There are ways to counter Shaman, but they're generally limited to a couple heroes that can do it well.
In general, she's just got a ton of options compared to most of the other heroes. Her heavies can be soft feinted into either a gb or bleed stab, a bite that tracks a little (much better now that it was nerfed) but can be reused if she misses so dodge rolling is useless (and can also be feinted until someone reacts), a very hefty OOS punish, guaranteed leaping heavies AFTER throws (why, I have no idea), a headbutt that can be difficult to react to occasionally, and 500ms dodge heavies.
There's just a lot to deal with when defending against a shaman. She's an assassin with an incredibly large number of attack options, and with how fast she can feint her attack it's very easy for her to bait and parry attacks that are trying to interrupt her. She also is an assassin with unblockables, quite a few of them. As an assassin she also has a deflect.
The number of things she has in her kit just pile up into a small mountain.
It isn't impossible to beat her, and personally I feel very accomplished and proud when I beat a very skilled Shaman player as my Highlander, but whenever I see one in duels I immediately expect to have a ridiculously hard time.
I don't like her just because she's too out there. I mean, she eats people to regenerate her health. What is she? A zombie? We have zombies in a game about medieval combat? I get what they're going for, the twitchy head movements, the low slung stance, making her move like an animal and bite you like one, but it's just so ridiculous it really grinds my gears every time I see her do it, even if it's to somebody else. In my opinion, she has no place on the roster in her current form. I dislike Shugoki's DE for the health regeneration aspect of it too, but at least he doesn't slap you between two rounds of bread and chow down.
