Now deep into the Tier system, and been getting credit towards these Prestige Crates. My impression is that they are only good for, what I will call, fluff. Any item(s) that might be in the crates are cosmetic only. For example, get a patch of some kind which can be added. Is this correct?
Not that it matters any, but have been getting patches added to my inventory, and don't have a clue as to why that is happening.
Almost everything in prestige crates is clothing or weapons with custom paintjobs and preset accessories that you could assemble yourself in gunsmith if you have picked up said weapons from the world (just without the custom paintjobs). Also there are many vehicles that are just some car or pickup or whatever with custom paint.Originally Posted by MikeWeeks Go to original post
I can think of at least a couple of items that provide actual tactical advantages in game, and that's SB and Unidad Black Hawks with missile pods and Strykers. Being able to summon these with the rebel vehicle skill makes using them regularly a whole lot easier than if you had to find and steal one from a base every time you wanted to blow some **** up.
Came across my first helo with the rocket pods last night - thought that was cool. Will have to re-visit the site to see if it was a random spawn or not.Originally Posted by non-exist-ent Go to original post
Given I will never pay real $ beyond a game itself and possible DLCs, if a crate that's "given" to me for playing possibility produces something other than fluff, that's fine. Might as well start opening them up and see what's inside.
I didn't pay much attention to what I got from the retroactive rewards when I opened up my 40 or so Battle Crates but apparently one of them must have been a Blackhawk with rocket pods. I noticed that I could now call in one with rebel support.
At first I was a little disappointed because I would have preferred a little bird with a gun or rockets. However, I've warmed up to the guided rockets and they deal quite a bit more damage than the rocket salvo from the little birds. Been a devastating tool.
I've been getting good stuff. I opened like 5 or so in the first day of update and got copies which then traded into 10 GRC each. A week later used a lot of Prestige Credits to grab some Prestige Crates and I have been getting cool stuff almost everytime for mostly clothing part, gun paint, exotic gun, and vehicles. One of them was Santa Blanca APC.
Other than the slight bullpoo saying that we can earn Prestige Credits in PvE but it turned out to be only one time and the rest must be dictated through Season Challenge, it is fine so far. Does it have value in gameplay? Sure thing. I apparently also don't like having these contents stored within my HDD and locked from use.
For people that don't want to pay for cosmetic DLC, sure. Doesn't help people like me that spent all this money over a year on it all though.
There's also been these long stretches I couldn't update that when They had that 3mth spell between updates and So could catch up. Was pleasantly surprised how many of those packs had little changes. So Prestige, Spec Ops and Ghost War crates for me are solely about the newest stuff. Which is cool.
I didn't bother checking out what I was refunded but I guess it's really only 10 each for dup refunds? Seems really cheap to do that to folks but then again, I didn't do much to earn these so I'm (personally) not too bothered by it. I did notice that I got a lot of duplicates though.Originally Posted by Kane_sg Go to original post
I'm going to assume folks who actually pay for these crates don't get the same treatment, do they?
Having milked Ghost mode for all the prestige crates (and, every twenty, Spec Ops crates) I could get and having very little prestige left to get from the vanilla campaign---just a few tiers more (I never went for tier 1 before there was prestige in it)---I celebrated today by grabbing a pile of crates from the store, enough to very nearly complete my collection of "SO2" items.
I was amused to find that Spec Ops crates drop that MacMillan TAC50, which is for some reason 1500 credits if you buy it standalone in the store. It's just an HTI with a different mesh really, but it's still kinda cool.
You can now get the entire Predator pack from crates for the 2000 credits instead of the store price of 2600, but of course you have to be willing to gamble or commit to cratespamming the entire pool of items.
The Blaser R93 from Predators came out in a Ghost War crate for some reason---thought as a PvE only item it would be in Spec Ops---so that seemed noteworthy, good to know for anyone interested in acquiring that rifle. Again it's really just something we have already with a different mesh (this time basically an MSR), and I used to think it was a bit odd looking, but it's really grown on me and gets MSR performance without being quite so massive on my back.
That Brasilian "Pentagun" five round revolver shotgun is disappointingly entirely unweaponsmithable, but the new FRF2 is. Even though some of these weapons (the R93 as well) don't have a lot of options it's still nice to be able to pick optics and paintjobs and such you like.
Social items, meh, they are what they are, I suppose they are a bit fun, especially the voicelines in PvP, I just wish I could have all of them queued up at a time instead of just five. I have them all now, and I want to use them all in every single match in PvP so my team will know how witty I am.
(Someone begged me for a revive earlier, I played the "You just got an express ticket to hell!" voiceline, then ran to revive them and immediately died to a mine I didn't see that the enemy had placed on their body. My teammate typed, "Oh, god." I literally cackled.)
So I've got all these icons now, but I really don't care for them. I wish Ubisoft would institute a market system so that I could trade or sell for credits all my icons to other players who want them. It's always a disappointment to get something OMGLEGENDARY in a crate and then see it's basically just totally uncustomisable avatar of a GR or R6 character to run around in while continuing to speak in (to you) Nomad's or (to others') Holt's/Weaver's/Midas' voice. Now maybe if Ubi got the voice actors for all those icons to come in and record new dialogue for them that plays if you're wearing one...
The FAST helmet with the monocular NOD is great, but it, along with the full Predator mask, is legendary, and in the pre "SO2" items no clothing item was ever legendary (unless you count icons), so that seems a bit irregular.
The nicest surprise, speaking of missile choppers, is that post "SO2" battle crates now contain AH1 Cobra, everyone's favourite attack helicopter. A great addition to the vehicle stable. I used to steal them from Unidad bases all the time for extremely disquiet unprofessional mayhem, cool to have them on call now.
Anyway these are just some thoughts I had about the new battle crate content that I thought some people might find of interest but that I didn't think warranted their own thread.
Huh? The only "one-time" payouts are the "bounties" for the buchons in Ghost Mode. They're worth 400 Prestige each. Plus 2x3000 prestige for reaching lvl 30 and then reaching Tier One.Originally Posted by Kane_sg Go to original post
However, each time your Ghost earns a Tier level (campaign or GM), you get 300 Prestige. While higher (or actually LOWER) Tier levels may be a bit problematic, levels 50-30 should be pretty quick and relatively painless, giving you another 6k Prestige, enough for 15 crates. And this is NOT a one-time payout, it works across all characters, so if anyone is up to it, they can grind GM to get to Tier One and then just grind some Tier levels by endlessly repeating those few missions with high XP value. Sure, it takes time and effort, but then that's why it's called a grind.
Are you 100% sure about this? It contradicts reports from other users here who say they got 300 prestige for the first character to reach, say, tier 49 in vanilla, then did not receive prestige for the next character they got to tier 49---again in vanilla (Ghost mode gives you a separate 300 prestige per tier).Originally Posted by Ringwraith5 Go to original post
I have not tiered multiple characters since "SO2" came out except one in vanilla, one in Ghost mode, so I don't know from personal experience. But if what you're saying is true, yeah, it's easy as hell to get to level 30 and quickly grind out a few higher tiers.
I might actually do this myself even. I have, as I mentioned above, very nearly all crate items, but I'm sure there will be future crate items added, and of course it generates store credits to get duplicates from prestige crates.
Please confirm you've definitely made this work, don't you dare get my hopes up if you aren't sure! XD
