You know what, perhaps this isn't politically correct but it wasn't a lie either... as a Latin white guy living in the US (not Cuban or Black so I have no priviliges but those who I have gotten by myself), the first thing my father told me was NEVER be a burden to society, I think is time we all started to take responsibility for our own actions and quit waiting on Uncle Sam's check to pay for the section 8 housing while driving that new Escalade dropped to the floow with 25s for something that was done to someone 150+ years ago...

I didn't say Ghost416 was racist or anything like it. I simply suggested that their joke was in poor taste.

Ghost416 then proceeded to say something racist, so it's not as though the mildness of my suggestion made any difference. People will see what they want to see and say what they want to say. Especially in an age of normatised quasimainstream bigotry. You can thank a certain angry orange bag of intestinal gas for that.

Also please do not assign me a gender. It's not great for gender equality if you always assume a given person is male unless specifically informed otherwise.

"Political correctness" is a strange orwellian phrase invented by rightist cranks to demonise a desire to show respect and consideration to other people.

The comment you are referring to from Ghost416 not only showed a lack of respect and consideration for their fellow human beings, it was blatantly racist.

Also you're being a bit disingenuous by suggesting that being a person of colour is actually what gets you privilege when whiteness does not or actively disadvantages you. This is also a bizarre fairytale from the rightist fantasy factory.

Also you seem to be arguing that historical occurrences do not inform present realities. If you stop and think about that notion for a moment I think you'll realise it's quite impossible.

Further the neoliberal idea of "personal responsibility in a vacuum" also doesn't make sense if you consider the power and pervasiveness of the social systems and power dynamics all people cannot help but be a part of. I'm afraid agency loses to structure every time. ((((

Actually, my response was intended to be more tongue in cheek than serious (though there is a level of favoritism toward minorities and immigrants in CA that's obvious to anyone who does or has lived there). For the record, I don't consider myself better or worse than anyone on a social or especially racial level and wouldn't want to be. My slice of the cake shouldn't be bigger than anyone else's and vice versa.

But, yeah, as ual002 said, this isn't the place for this line of discussion and we should get back on track.

What exactly did I say that was racist? The tongue in cheek response to the "white privilege" BS that you brought up in the first place? The fact that the majority of blacks killed are killed by other blacks, something the vaunted BLM conveniently ignores (consequently, the majority of whites are killed by whites according to that same document, too, but you don't hear me crying about any so called white genocide)? That the California state government shows favoritism toward minorities and immigrants?
