They’re not really hidden for concealment purposes like you’re thinking, a plate carrier isn’t exactly keeping a low profile, it’s done for practical purposes, I.e you’re in a firefight and have to go prone, if you have a bunch of crap on your chest you can’t get as low to the ground, if you see pics of actual operators the front of their kit is typically pretty slim looking and that’s why, also you don’t want a bunch of clutter like flaps on mag pouches getting in your way during a hot reload, also you don’t want a bunch of unnecessary stuff weighing you down and getting in your way, also whatever side of your body you have your secondary holstered you don’t want much kit on because that can interfere with drawing your secondary

I don't know what pictures you have seen, but most of the pics, I've seen, they usually have a bunch of stuff on their vests, other than maybe snipers. After all, you if you are taking fire, they want the bullets to hit them in the torso, where the armour is, so the more crap you can put between the bullet and your body, the better.

A lot of those pics online are airsofters, besides, the plates in the jpcs, cpcs, avs, etc will absorb multiple hits from ak rounds, canvas pouches don’t stop rounds at all

To be fair, the new vests given to the Dutch army are quite heavily packed.

For infantry, these were tested in 2017:
    Spoiler:  Show

Many of them contain electronic communication devices that are like smaller I-pads, with maps integrated to them, ammo pouches, a drop bag for empty mags and stuff, a pouch for batteries and a pouch for 40mm grenadelauncher ammo. Additionally it seems to be able to carry atleast 4 5.56 mags, but that probably depends on the setup they go with (Dutch spoken) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hb864rq-qck

I also found a website discussing Dutch army vests from 2014:
    Spoiler:  Show

A pretty heavy vest with the same tech as from the vest mentioned earlier, here they do mention that, if necessary, they can make them lighter, but generally speaking they're going to be fairly heavily equiped.

Woody, you have no idea what pictures I've seen. And the last time I've checked, Airsoft is a big thing in the Middle East, where many of those pictures were taken
