Personally I still think they should make permadeath optional, I don't care if they remove my achievements if this is turned off. To each his own.

Has anyone tried alt+F4ing out of the game real quick while falling?

I think one of the posters here accurately stated that if you're DBNO and then you Alt+F4...save game is gone.

I drove over a landmine (death by my own design) and went into DBNO state...with no chance of revival. I Alt+F4'd and lost the save. Trick is to keep an eye out for the saving icon on the screen.
The ghostly skull on the bottom right (On PC anyway)

If you see the ghostly skull - that's it. The game considers you in DBNO state then. Alt+F4 won't save you. If you don't see a skull right before your imminent death - Alt+F4 should do the trick.

I guess there must be also a message prompt about "You will lose any unsaved progress." sort of warning since your death was not yet saved.

Must time the auto-save right. 😅
