I would condemn this, were it not for the fact you can die far too easily from bugs and glitches, and in fact more so than from Opfor. Falling through the Earth, is instant death for example.
You can't manually manipulate save management on XBOX One. The systems syncs automatically; ie. when the game saves, it updates the save state in the cloud as well. It's a dedicated online only system and won't backup when not online.Originally Posted by Kean_1 Go to original post
You cannot manipulate the local saves at all; except to delete them.
I have been using this workaround for some time now. I didn't do it at all for my first character to level 30 and 100% cartel destabilisation, but I began employing it for tier mode---where the AIs "cheat" constantly with wallhax and aimbots---and two person coop, which is quite unforgiving.
I don't feel even the tiniest bit guilty about it.
I am concerned, however, that publicly posting about it will compel Ubisoft to take steps against it. I have recommended savegame backups in one on one conversations with members of my task force and other players via my Discord server, but speaking about it publicly in an Ubisoft controlled communications medium seemed too risky.
So while I'll be glad of any additional pleasure and reduced frustration experienced by any player who reads this thread---for the time being---I am much afeared that Ubisoft will consider this technique a subversion of their artistic intent and find a way to stop it or punish it as an exploit. ((((
I highly doubt it. As it is, they are well aware of the frustration this permadeath feature has caused many of their fans. Hell, it even brought a spotlight back on long time bugs, glitches and quirks in the gameplay. ......so much so that they decided to address those next month.Originally Posted by non-exist-ent Go to original post
Naw..... I'll wager they won't think twice about this and even might see it as a good community work-around to maybe get people to keep playing this new mode. If it wasn't for being able to save my progress I wouldn't even think twice about playing GM again.
Ubisoft has posted on their customer support page the basic instructions on how to backup and save your game files on the PC. It's been out there long before PD was introduced with GM.Originally Posted by non-exist-ent Go to original post
This is fact.Originally Posted by MikeWeeks Go to original post
I play on PC as well, I just don't play this game on PC. Anyone used to Steam should know how to do manual backups anyway; it's just that you rarely need to actively do so (rarely, not never). People also have many other options on PC, not just that one method.
Not saying players on XBOX wouldn't take advantage of this, if they could. As it stands however, reaching T1 in a single GM play through, on PS4 & PC is kinda redundant, as it stands; because of this. Then again, it's not like there's a ladder anyway. -- and that whole setup, is precisely what's wrong with GM mode, from the outset.
No incentive, apart from a few items. GM mode should have a ladder, should have the save system organised around it and should have unique seasonal rewards to echo it. -- There should be one for solo, team and TF; top 3 positioning.
That's what made games like Path of Exile, great! Managed, competitive ladder competition. Thus game has that dna.
So basically everyone is using an exploit to get to Tier-1 on ghost mode? I mean yeah everyone can say it’s because of the bugs/glitches etc but 100 percent you’ll also use it to reinstate your save data even on a death that was your own fault and got K.I.A legitimately.. I don’t know it seems a little dubious to me and kinda defeats the whole point in the first place.
Part of me also does say it kinda makes sense though especially as non-exist-ent pointed out about the Tier level BS enemies but there are safe ways to hit Tier one even if exceptionally boring.
I just don’t know and I’m kinda on the fence here on this one guys/girls.
Personally, I have zero interest in permadeath. Unfortunately, they locked the rest of the new features behind this new mode. On PS4, this online upload has made the new mode tolerable for my friends and I. I would still like to see the new features ported over to the main game as options (as most have originally requested over the past year or more) but until that time, this is all we go so we try to make it work for us.Originally Posted by X_FRoeeeeee Go to original post
If this wasn't possible I honestly wouldn't be playing GM right now. Either way, it's PvE so it's not as if we are talking about an exploit in Ghost War where players would be taking an unfair advantage over others in a competitive setting. .....if one would even consider this an exploit.
Thank you for the feedback everyone. I appreciate it. To address some of it now:

Not only because their save files are known for becoming corrupted for no apparent reason, cloud or no cloud (I've met people who started to religiously back up save files after this happened to them early this year), but also because it is the only way to efficiently work around "possible future permadeath scenarios", which is no longer in the future, but is a mode in the game now, called Ghost Mode. Pre-emptive action to do nothing except to leave the burden of workarounds on paying customers. Who feels guilty amongst us? Nobody. It's a broken software, and we have to deal with it.
Read the response on this thread from TheHand. You see, the company knows its shortcomings and encourages players to find fail safes and workarounds instead of working to address some of these major failures.

Everyone, please meet people on Ghost Mode public matchmaking. Just about everyone is using backed up save files. The idea of permadeath, though intended by Ubisoft as the backbone of Ghost Mode as Kean_1 has deemed it so many times on the forums, is slowly dying, if it is not dead already.
There is no such thing as permadeath. It is as you said. All you have, to distinguish between an honest player who uses this method to work around a glitch KIA or a dishonest player who uses this method to work around his lack of skill, or a frustrated player who uses this method to work around permadeath in general because all he wants is to experience the other features of this gamemode, is their 'word'.
So as my friends and I pointed out before the release of this gamemode about the failures they would have to face with such an undertaking, we stated that they will never have a feature, in-game or on the Ghost Recon Network website, where the difficulty a player played on to get to a certain point in Ghost Mode is made public. They will never have a feature where detailed Ghost Mode statistics are made public. Because they know it is more or less a personal experience rather than a competitive one, or even one to brag about. Because they knew that everyone was going to end up backing up save files, and figuring out fail safes for game glitches, and playing the game with the least risk possible.
Dubious? Yes, of course. Defeating the purpose that Ubisoft wanted with Ghost Mode? Right on. What else has Ghost Mode become but a non-stop mission cheese fest with constant readiness for Alt-F4 or Airplane Mode, and of course backed up save files. Most everyone is doing it, and eventually everyone will be doing it. Public Ghost Mode is open season for griefers and teamkilling trolls. But Ubisoft knew that well in advance too. That is why you get a little warning message about friendly fire being active before going to public matchmaking and that is why you have backups. I mean, who doesn't like to meet new people?
Ghost Mode has become an utter joke, from the pretentious attempt at ammo reload realism, while still being able to jam .50 cal from a dead enemy into a 9mm, to the zero acknowledgement for permadeath, due to backed up save files. KIA-causing-glitches? Who cares when you have workarounds? They won't be fixed; sorry, they 'can't' be fixed. The game engine cannot be manipulated at this stage to fix most of the KIA-causing-glitches.
It's just unfortunate that it took people a while to figure out that they have to back up their save files. Permadeath does not exist. It never did.
