To expound a bit more on the ship-naming, the statements to date by Justin have been... not especially encouraging when it comes to having free reign over your ship's name. It's touched on in the Q&A snippet that Ubi-Lucipus quoted, but it's been driven home a lot more in comments elsewhere: The foremost priority for development seems to be maintaining some purported sense of "immersion" in the world. The view of the devs seems to be that thematic consistency in the game world should take precedent over giving players freedom in naming their ships.
That position isn't unjustified. One's disbelief would be harder to suspend if you're sailing along the Gulf of Aden and run across another player piloting the good ship Thot Destroyer.
That said, my personal position is that giving players freedom in what is arguably the most iconic form of a ship's expression is deeply important, and is worth the risk of having to play "name police". A good system of player-initiated (and Ubi-reviewed) reporting, coupled with a list of banned words / phrases, would go a long way towards purging the worst of the abuses folks could come up with when naming their ships, and I'm of the opinion that allowing players to name their own ships relatively freely would dramatically enhance the connection that players feel between themselves and their captains and vessels. And ultimately, that player-avatar connection is (again, in my opinion) just as strong a factor in maintaining immersion in a game as thematic consistency might be.
Is the Man Of War going to be an obtainable ship I wanted one of my own in black flag and only got it for kenways fleet but it’s one ship that would be awesome to be obtained and customized and Feared it just another question I had but the game looks great I can’t wait to see it in all it’s Glory and Honor keep up the great work.
No official word yet on Yes/No regarding playable Man-of-Wars in Skull & Bones. The ship "frames" that we know will be playable are the Frigate (which is honestly misnamed, it's basically a low-grade Man-of-War), Brigantine, Sloop, and Schooner.Originally Posted by MasterIrish26 Go to original post
I want the Peal to be there as a Uplay prize.
There a ton of ships but its unlikely that mega man of wars will be in game.
As said by someone frigates are closest thing to a man of war. In BF we had a skiff, which is a tiny ship based for 30ish ppl.
A Men of War that blackbeard had is not really a ship but is known as a platoon. It a ship able to hoist other ships like skooners, and skiffs. And require roughly 300 people to maintain. They would prob if they are there would be legendary ships that would be end game content. Dont forget a man of war can have 120 cannons, and 15 mortars as well as 15 crew cabins of 60-80 ppl. So yes they are large
The Jackdaw is a brig. A pretty clear-cut brig, in fact, notwithstanding the ridiculous ramming prow. Brigs could be sailed with around ten people, but for combat duty it wouldn't have been unusual to see a crew of 120 or higher.Originally Posted by ballon009 Go to original post
The boat that Jack Sparrow is sailing, alone, at the very end of At World's End, is basically a skiff.
My suspicion is that if the largest man-of-wars are in the game, they will be AI ships in "boss battle" types of situations.
