One thing I've noticed in a lot of naval warfare games is an adherence to the use of European naval ships. Lately I've been doing a lot of research on Medieval and pirate sailing ships. Mostly Asian in origin, specifically Japanese, Korean, and Chinese.
Now the Japanese ships were meant mainly for boarding actions so they probably wouldn't work in S&B. Although there was a infamous Japanese pirate who used an Atakebune.
The Korean ships Panokseon and Turtle ship are both extremely powerful. The Turtle ship especially is capable of ramming, long to short distance fighting and can be especially challengeing to board.
Now the Chinese also have a lot of OP ships such as the War Junks that was used by a rather infamous pirate Queen who had a whole fleet of them and used them to not only kick the c**p out of the Chinese navy but several European ones as well. They also had a number of larger ships that could fit into the game and numerous naval weapons such as rockets, flamethrowers, and cannonballs with molten cores.
I would very much like to one day see ships in Skulls & Bones that are more unique than the overly used European vessels whether they be Asian or something else entirely.
Considering that the game development is being spearheaded by a team out of Singapore, I'd be pretty surprised if we never saw any Chinese / eastern-style ships in the game. But [SPECULATION WARNING] I don't expect to see them at release. The way the game has been characterized to date has been that the player is a former-Caribbean pirate captain who has fled the crackdown there for the greener pastures of the Indian Ocean, so at launch my guess is that the selection will be pretty European in character. (EDIT: Theships enumerated by the devs so far are all European standards: Frigates, Brigantines, Sloops, and Schooners.) However, we know that over time, the game's timeline is going to advance as new content gets added. I would tentatively expect to see successive seasons moving the "front" of the game further east around the Indian Ocean, so over time we could see Arabian, Indian, and eventually Southeast Asian ships added to the roster.
I know a lot of folks in the community who are hankering for some Junks.
Two days ago during the China Joy, Justin Farren (Creative director of S&B) was asked if the game will have any Chinese ships and he said it is too early to say and that they will add ships over time, so he didn't dismiss the idea. I also would be very surprised if we didn't see any Asian ships because well, their studio is in Singapore![]()
I hope you put in dutch ships most games forget us but we were a huge trade nation Like the spanish or english and we did fight with them we had large ships but most are not deep in the water cause our harbors and canals arent really deep Like in chatham we took the royal Charles one of the nicest ships of engeland but we had to cut it up it didnt fit in our harbor our harbor in Amsterdam had 2000 ships laying in it that was our biggest harbor i hope i see some dutch ships dutch Merchant ships or maybe even dutch slave trade ships they were going to africa to the caribien to India to Indonesia america south america new Zeeland we also had privateers (pirates for other countrys but payd by our country) its called our golden age so much money was made
I really hope there are dutch ships they were build to fit in shallower waters in the game we were a big market leader from Merchant ships battle ships and slave ships
We also had privateers pirates for other country's we also took the biggest ship from england in the battle of chatham our harbor in Amsterdam had 2000 ships laying in it on its prime days so i hope we der them in the game with the english french Portugese and spanish ships
If you are asking for historical/real ships from history I doubt we will see any in this game. Just watching the trailers you can see the ships are fantasy based.Originally Posted by JAYJAYITH Go to original post

Regarding ship names, it's described in the thread but I'll put it here as well for you:
I know it's not a definite answer but we're absolutely looking into this. Can you name your ship?
The name of a ship is a big part of its identity. We are exploring options to allow for player expression while maintaining the logic, believability and fantasy of our world. More information will be shared closer to the release of the game.![]()
