Lower your pitchforks and hear me out
Current ChipDamage is 20% on both Lights and Heavys.
As you progress through ladder you will run into Players parrying all your attacks than you start to feint/gb and punish them for a parry attempt (and it`s the healthy part of the game). But at some Point you run into Players who only use Bashes (Conq/Wardens) and just block (no risk of gettin gb). If you play a character without a bash you are pretty much f****.
By increasing the Chip damage on Heavy Attacks to ~50% (Values are not that important needs Playtesting anyways but for example Heavy Characters could get even more) people have to either parry it or dodge or light attack to stop the attack or take a good amount of damage (kinda makes sense that a big slow attack is not blocked without takin some serious damage).
With so many "Top Tier" Characters relying on Bashes it should be obvious that the Balance between normal attacks and defending is still in favor of the Defender.
But again just my opinion agree with it or not (once you run into a good conq not attacking just blocking and bashing you should come to the same conclusion anyway).
I totally agree. And it should have lethality potence (the guard should be disabled afrer blocking an attack with bigger block damage than remaining health for at least 5 seconds, though he should keep his ability to parry, dodge, deflect and attack, maybe the fullblocks too). Though 50% might be too much, and if heavies get an advantage here, the conq shouldn't be included (or nerfed heavily first).
Not sure if you've been keeping up with the Warrior's Den livestreams, but they're scrapping the current gear system in the next season and replacing it with a "perk point" system.Originally Posted by Melikethegames Go to original post
If my understanding is correct, gear will have points toward certain character-specific perks (some perks will be universal across all characters). If you have enough points for a specific perk from all of your gear, you'll get the perk. There's several tiers/versions of each perk if you have a lot more points in that specific perk.
Thus, there's no guarantee that additional block damage is a perk, since so far they haven't revealed all the details of the perks yet.
Reddit may have found leaks on those details, but I haven't seen them yet. Those redditors are a crafty bunch.
I hate chip damage it's stupid, when has someone ever been hurt blocking an attack with a weapon or shield?
I'd agree with stamina damage on blocked attacks, bigger the weapon more stamina damage it does.
Chip damage should never kill ever it shouldn't even be a thing let alone kill, that would be like getting a parry and falling down dead.
There are players playing duel and brawl without gear, I guess block damage doesn't really matter in 4v4, whoever gets revenge there first wins.
The Witch King broke through Eowyn's shield and broke her arm too. Blocking an attack coming with momentum is actually not a good defense, it means that most of that force is transfered to your weapon, shield, wrist, arm, body. A hurting wrist and a crack on the shield is still better than a broken skull, but if the force is enough, it will hurt you. Parrying is directing that away, deflecting is letting it pass you, both technic is using the opponents force againt them. Watch a few duel sceens, you can see the block being insufficent in most of them.
Really, the witch king is the example you want to use. He was swinging a flail the size of a dresser, very different than the conq's flail. The only weapons that would cause some damage through a shield would be the massive ones at a full swing. Shug Kenabo, LB poleaxe, Raiders Dane axe and highlanders claymore. Thats about it. All these one handed weapons would do anything through a good shield.Originally Posted by RolandVermund Go to original post
If you want to go down this road further, sounds good... The weapons mentioned above would not be blockable on a heavy swing by most defences. Go ahead, try and block the force of a dane axe using Shiobi kamas. Go ahead see what a kenabo does when you block with orochi kitana or peacekeepers short sword.
I personally would love to see the heavies get this kind of buff... But it would be one sided for the big guys which the devs wont allow. But raising chip damage on these grounds is ridiculous. Shaman can wail on warlord shield all day long and he shouldnt feel a thing.
If we want to be totally realistic, then we can just remove more than half of the heroes from the game, there might be about 4 or 5 that have a proper equipment (and the lawbringer would probably still murder all of them, he should be basically immortal in his armor). I don't want to go into realistic/historical things that much, it would be healthy for the game to force out more parries, counters and anything but blocks. I don't think that only heavies should have it, maybe their block damage could be a bit better, but it's more like an individual problem for every hero, the conqueror obviously doesn't need any buff.
Ps.: I am actually pretty sure that the shaman could break through the warlord's shield. First, the first warlord shield is broken already (the standard one), so a few more swings would do the job for anybody. Second, the shaman is not just anybody, she is not even a human being. She can take turns during a 8 meter jump, can stop midair during an attack and return to the ground, can bite through plate armor and heals herself via drinking blood. I am pretty sure that she is a vampire (a mentally challenged vampire).
