Dunno if I'm the only one doing it, but when I've finished making a map other scenarios seem to present themselves, so I think why not, let's reuse the movie set I just made and re-jig it in some way - a few tweaks here or there, and possibly a change of type such as Bounty Hunt to Assault or Journey and let's do it again. Saves a ton of work and means you can produce something much faster than starting off from scratch again. And if you've spent an age creating a great movie set why restrict to just one map? Seems obvious to me. What do others think? Do you feel cheated or feel 'I've already played this', even if it's a different scenario with different enemies and goals? What's your take?
My highest rated map is a republish lol, I first published just to get the theme out before I got bored it got 2 stars boredom from editing set in I had ideas for another map so I published, it bombed then I just did a proper edit not even caring about the map just putting everything into place so it looks like right like lining up walls and color schemes of rooms it got 4 stars.
It's one thing to flood Arcade with ten remakes of your Nuke Town map but they remaster all of the best games every few years so if you can add some new rooms or change the lighting to make the map buildings look remodeled it's a win for everyone, players get more game, arcade gets better content and the creator comes up with new ideas not there when the original idea was first drawn up.
If you get bored and think the map is good but then sleep on it for a day or two you will come up with a few new rooms or whatever when you go to reedit, as long as you are smart about building screenshot quality scenery you should be able to set up layouts to be reused multiple times.
I was thinking of doing something similar with a map I'm working on now. It's a time travel themed map that has one central location using Lost on Mars assets (for the time machine part) then four other sections made to be in different time periods. Some of the designs I got for those other areas I think would be really strong as small arena type maps so I figured once I finished the original idea I would chop it up and publish the other areas individually to see how they do on their own. I see nothing wrong with doing this, why not get the milage out of work you've already done? I'm a guitar teacher by day and when I learn a new song to teach students I will exploit the hell out of it and teach it to any of my students that I think would be interested in it or benefit from it. Companies do this stuff all the time, Ubisoft among them. It's a common practice so I say go for it! Just try to make the other versions of it worthwhile.
