after fighting enough of them yesterday it quickly got a lot easier. the heros I really dont understand now are the ones that have tons of feints and cancels like HL and Kensei. Every time I think I know one thing they just cancel or feint into another thing. How are you ever supposed to know what is coming if they can simply feint or cancel into something else?

You're not. Ubisoft are marching ever onward towards an all out guessing game. Rock, paper scissors.

The point of feinting is for mix ups. Mix ups exist to make things unpredictable so you have to understand the kit and the opponent you're fighting better.

You have to get used to the feint timings and thus not to react too early. Kensei's soft feints all stem from his top heavy so keep your guard up top and be prepared to react if he soft feints to the sides, goes for a GB or a pommel strike if from neutral. The whole point of his soft feints is to force you into an incorrect reaction, if you are patient you can learn to not be baited into an early reaction.

Highlander's dash forward heavy can be soft feinted into a side heavy or held to go into Offensive stance. Keep your guard up top and be prepared to react to a side heavy. If he goes into Offensive stance then light attack him or use a dodge attack. His kick cancel into grab is a much trickier beast and recquires very precise timing as well as a fair bit of prediction more so than just reaction. This video should help with understanding how it works.

This is great info thanks so much!!!! Only problem is I play all assassin heros except Aramusha. I cant just sit my guard in top position and chill waiting to react to soft feints to the side.... Ill have to learn to wait and react top or side depending. Assassins have it so much rougher then other heroes that use standard guard.... so much easier to just park your guard in the direction you know their main attacks are coming from and wait for mix ups and react accordingly. but thank you so much this will help me know what to look for for these 2 classes. I am in the works of playing each class for at least 1 rep level so I have a basic understanding of all their kits. Currently I have played 10 heroes to rep 1 or just under so I am getting there. I absolutely hate HL and Warlord, I refuse to play them..... I will just have to suck it up and learn to fight them as I go..

this is all good advice from the cent mains. they make it seem so easy to beat a good cent and that they are balanced. their punish is too much and their stamina drain is a bit over the top.
