Following two weeks+ of vacation, back to the game, and having reached level 30 have a few simple questions for the game veterans.
First; Since I'm still in the early stages (story-wise: only eight Buchons and one under-boss completed) if I don't start the Tier 1 "grind" then all the game activities that once generated XP will be wasted as you progress thru the game, correct?
Second; Since the Tier system kicks in with Extreme difficulty at Tier 35, does it ever kick in with the Advanced difficulty on its own prior (assuming of course a Normal difficulty setting upon reaching level 30) ?
Third; Upon starting the Tier system is there any way to measure how the difficulty increases with each Tier level reached?
As a bit of game-play background; this first time thru clearing provinces based on difficulty (skulls) and have nearly all the most important skills maxed. Thus using the weapons as provided by the game, and using tactics accordingly.
Thus lastly; just how important is it to increase weapon damage (since it also requires resources as does skill upgrades) as you progress thru the Tier levels? IOW, if I start down the Tier path, is it best (or a good idea) to jump into specific provinces simply to get the better weapon(s) for my play style - and upgrade the damage to the weapon(s) I'll use until end of game?
Thanks for any feedback. Been trying to get as much background as possible on the subject by going thru previous posts as well as YT.
P.S. Have not d/l the July 24 update (TU15?) yet, so am playing off-line/solo. Going to need a weekend to free up the PC based on its size ...
First, I would advise starting tier 1 ASAP, but nothing is wasted. When you start tier 1 all missions are reset to full XP. Also, each time you level up in tier one all missions are reset again to full XP. You'll be repeating missions like crazy as you level up through tier 1 anyway. I recommend a quick YouTube search for best missions to level up in tier one. Basically, there's like 10 to 15 missions that have the highest XP, that you'll want to use as often as possible. Get familiar with those.
Second. Yes, tier one progresses up to extreme at level 35. IIRC, it's like 45, 40, and 35 are the forced difficulty increases. Something like that anyway.
Third. Eh, not sure. The enemies do get harder to kill I guess, if that's what you mean.
Last. With stealth kills weapon damage won't matter much. Pick a few favorite weapons that you want to level up damage with, focus on the one that you're going to turn to when sh*t hits the fan to level up first. When enemies are alerted, you're going to want to deal as much weapon damage as possible.
EDIT: as stealth kills don't need weapon damage increases, don't bother leveling up sniper rifles unless you just end up with a ton of extra resources you're not using on anything else.
As far as resources, you're going to have to farm the hell outta convoys. If you don't already have a solid plan for quickly taking down convoys, search that on YouTube as well.
Some like to use the EMP drone to stop the convoy, but I find that method shaky, as the convoy will just keep on moving if you don't keep the sniper rifle aimed at it.
I strictly use rebel spotting to highlight the convoy, and select the driver and passenger in the resource truck for sync shot. Then you can dismantle the rest of them however you want. I like to send a rebel diversion team at one escort vehicle, while having me and my team come at the other. Just find a method you're comfortable with.
Pro tip: if you purchased Fallen Ghosts, and you don't mind "cheating" a little bit, use the SR-25 Jungle for those pesky convoy helicopters and escort vehicles. You're welcome. Lol
Thanks @TexasRocks2 for taking the time to respond.
Started Tier1 last night and upon hitting Tier45 the game stated Arcade was no longer available. So indeed, most likely at 40 it'll be stated Normal is unavailable.
Don't plan on attempting to reach Tier1, just finish the campaign using the Tier mode. Thus will continue to farm convoy as normal, but not re-do previous story missions.
Again, thanks for the pointers.
Hey Mike,
Personally, I would skip Tier One until you experience the campaign in the unmolested form. ....but that's just me.
Everyone has varying opinions but in my case, Tier One helped kill nearly any of the replay value of the game do to it's grindy nature. I also didn't care for the mechanics they focused on to make the mode more "challenging" which was essentially increasing the TTK for alerted enemies, accuracy, response time, etc. It felt like battling against super humans as you got closer to T1. It essentially pushed me to play objectives a particular way instead of allowing more freedom like the core game does.
I always played the game on Extreme difficulty so the effect wasn't as bad for me as it might be for someone used to Arcade or similar settings. ......but it was still bad enough. Either way, you can always turn if off or back on whenever you wish.
Regardless of my own opinion of the mode, I just think you'll get more replay for your money with an "au naturale" playthrough first and then a second playthrough using Tier One, achieving the new goals/prizes, etc. Even for those who like Tier One I would recommend playing this way to get (what i believe) is more bang for your buck. ....YMMV though.
Thanks Kean -
Believe me, debated what to do once reaching skill level 30, having looked at so many posts on the subject. Have a hard save for that story mission. so a re-start w/o going the Tier path is quite doable (since I'm not rushing thru the campaign). What surprised me for example is how quickly got to Tier 44 by just continuing to do my "normal" play
What I can't get over is that all those activities which up to SL30 generated XP, simply go to waste in normal game play w/o starting down the Tier system path. I assume the intent was that up to SL30 it's "to get you started" only and from that point any skill points have to be collected by specific actions w/in the provinces. So unlike the Far Cry series up to the last, horrible, installment.![]()
Made this a while back, hope it helps

As Kean said, be prepared for the very tedious grind if you plan to advance to actual Tier level 1. I didn't so much mind Tier One pretty much forcing a stealth play style, as I was already predominately playing that way, but after many hours of the grind, I finally started to get bored to the point of having to shelve it temporarily and play other games to not get burned out. So you may want to consider what other games you can play to ease the monotony. The grind is the single biggest thing IMO that ruins the fun of Tier One mode. Up to Tier level 30 it's not bad, but beyond that it's like a decent into madness. You may even imagine yourself playing a nonstop version of Halo on a Mobius Strip vs ring planet, while your squad are saying things like, "Hey, weren't we here before boss?".![]()
As others have stated the biggest issue with Tier mode is the grind followed by the unrealistic enemy A.I.. I have huge doubts anyone at Ubi tested it at Tier level 1 as to be fair it becomes a joke once spotted and engaged and in turn forces you to only be able to play the game in total stealth.
I just don’t understand how they decided that going the route they did which to be honest basically forces you to just grind the same 12-15 missions over and over was going to be “fun”. My advice would be to play the game on extreme and with no hud as that actually makes the game so much more immersive and fun then the Tier mode could ever do.
It’s sad really because not only did they pretty much miss the mark with the Toer mode but they are just repeating themselves with “ghost mode” again another mode which adds nothing really new or interesting apart from a permadeath feature and a futuristic exo suit that I know majority of the people who visit this forum really couldn’t give a s**t about.
Except for maybe the new generation of GR players that came over from CoD. I mean there are at least some good things about the new GR style, but when they go looking to pull in the likes of the GTA crowd (Narco Road), and CoD players with things like exo suits that have no business in a GR game, it's clear they are just thinking more players, more profits.Originally Posted by X_FRoeeeeee Go to original post
