Hi there, first time poster here. Only been playing SPPD since May, but totally loving it so far. I have a pretty good grasp of the mechanics of the game and how all the cards work, but one card type I find a bit puzzling, and that's the totem cards, specifically Energy Staff.
The issue I have isn't with the actual functionality of the card, it's with the fact that there hardly seems to be any viable reason to want to upgrade it. Sure, there're other cards in the game that hardly give any kind of improvement for upgrading, but those are all spell cards (like Purify and Transmogrify to name a couple), and those just cost coins, not valuable upgrade materials.
The only thing you get when upgrading an Energy Staff is an increase to it's hp, but how does that really improve it? Correct me if I'm wrong, but going by what I've read from other posts and personal experience, an untouched level one totem will last just as long as one at level four, which is around 30 seconds. That doesn't make any sense. Why even bother leveling it up?
Whenever I see someone set up an Energy Staff, I pretty much just ignore it because I don't really see it as a threat and I know it's going to go down on it's own in half a minute anyway, regardless of it's level, so no real reason to go after it. I'm pretty sure almost all other players, other than the freshest newbie, probably feel the same, so what does it matter to add hp to it if the only time it'll probably even get hit is through collateral damage while targeting something else? That hardly justifies the resources it would take to upgrade it.
In comparison, let's look at the other totem in the game, Chicken Coop. Now that's a totem worth upgrading. A Chicken Coop at level one is a joke, but if I see someone lay down a level three Chicken Coop, I know I'll have a tough time ahead of me since the actual swarm units scale with level, but seeing someone use a level four Energy Staff doesn't even phase me, other than me thinking how dumb it was for them to waste all their resources to get it there.
So let's take a look at the possible solutions:
1. Have Energy Staff degenerate at a set rate according to it's hp, for example 10 hp/sec, so one left unmolested with 250 hp lasts 25 secs, 350 hp lasts 35 secs, etc.
2. Leave the deterioration system as is, but give Energy Staff an offensive component, like a lighter version of NK zap. Maybe start it at base attack 5 with a 1.5 range and the damage scales +1 every so many upgrades. That's not much, but it's something. At the very least that way a level four Energy Staff would be slightly more useful than a level one and at least gives you a little bit more incentive to level it up.
3. Give a slight increase in energy boost (+0.5%) every several upgrades instead.
I think any one of these options (but only one) would be a great solution. Thoughts?
Toller I hope you are reading this!
First, I'll say that JR0MER0's observation on the energy staff is straight on point. I want to play the energy staff too, yet I struggle to find ways to keep it in my deck. bottom line: give it a boost.
Second, my feelings towards energy staff are similar to my feelings towards Choirboy Butters. Maybe make the energy he gives at Deathwish increase with upgrades? Sounds good to me.. He's an Epic card at the end of the day, and same for Hermes Kenny. which bring me to my next point, Can you make more assassins in Mystical deck? There are literally 2 assassins which are both Epic. There's also Sexy Nun Randy, that summons choirboy assassins, and also Epic. #GoMystical
Third and last, Can you make like the option to Trade Epic cards? like not all the time, but like once a week? "Epic Monday" style?
I really hope you will read this, and thank you for creating this awesome game! (so addicted...)
Great minds think alike, ConfusedAF23. I actually posted a thread on Choirboy Butters on the General Discussion board a couple days ago https://forums.ubi.com/showthread.ph...ters-Deathwish
I think us Mysticals are supposed to be getting an Ike card soon (Supposedly Boy Scout Ike, not sure what that has to do with the mystical theme, but whatever). Not sure what his abilities will be, but he should be a common.
Decided to revive this thread because I still feel it's something that should get looked at. Why is it that anytime one of us comes up with a great suggestion on how to improve and balance the game, and I've come up with several concerning different cards over the last year, despite the fact the community voices their support, it basically goes ignored by RL? We get told our suggestions get passed on to RL, but do they really? Or is it that they don't care about our suggestions if they aren't their own? Case in point, was anyone really asking for a buff to Poseiden Stan and Towelie when there's so many other unbalanced and underperforming cards out there that should be a priority? Seems like they only listen when enough people complain about a card being overpowered, and then they eventually nerf it, usually by way too much at that. Okay, rant over.
I know. I almost feel like they're scared to use any of our great suggestions out of fear we'll ask for some kind of compensation. I promise, I won't, I just want to make the game better and more balanced.Originally Posted by fecog Go to original post
I think in regards to this they either need to start listening to people/show they're listening to people, or if they're not prepared to entertain ideas from the players then they need to make this fact clear. Why? Well using your original post as an example (you are one of many), you have clearly spent some of your time thinking about this issue, thinking about proper solutions, and then put in the time and effort to present this clearly in writing. So frankly if you (or anybody else) doing this is a waste of time then it should be known exactly so we don't waste our time. Or if they do listen then they need to be more proactive in making that known too (with actions rather than simple words like 'will pass that onto the team'). Right now it feels like the effort put into responses is not even a small percentage of the effort put in by players/fans who just want the best for the game.Originally Posted by JR0MER0 Go to original post
Well said. Granted, not every suggestion I've seen on this message board is a good one (trust me, I've seen some stinkers), but there are several of us who constantly put out great ideas that actually make sense. It would be nice if they would implement just one, a single one, just so we know that our opinions matter, but I have yet to see it.Originally Posted by lister_infiji Go to original post
