I can't give you any feedback on PVP (Multyplayer) as I personally don't care about it and I don't play it.

In terms of PVE (Singleplayer or COOP) I definetly think this game is worth a buy. I personally got the gold edition for €30,- on steam, which was worth it in my opinion. If you have friends to play with I would definetly get the game, if you play alone I would still get it (I did), but maybe you should look for a place where you can get it cheaper if you're afraid that you'll waste money.

I am warning you tho, all additional cosmetic items cost you quite a lot of cash. If you really want helmets with night vision for instance, you'll have to invest more. Just to bare in mind.

It's up to you in the end

The game is clearly designed as coop and singleplayer is an afterthought. You can still have fun with it, but it will feel quite mediocre gameplaywise. Shooting is easy, there is no proper team command, you miss out a lot of tactically more creative approaches to missions,...

I still play it in singleplayer sometimes though rarely, mainly because all those I played with have moved on, but there are few fond memories of it, its more of a timer filler when I have absolutely nothing to do. Even though I hate playing multiplayer games, I had a lot of fun playing it with friends.

Regarding NVG - you have them in game, just not displayed on your character. So the full gameplay functionallity is there but the pure cosmetic option requires you to spend money.

Lol! Yes. In fact it's free, of any requirement. Cash, skills or otherwise. You'll have to spend a skill point to get NV for your drone tho.. just sayin'

Plenty of YT videos showing the gameplay. I'd suggest viewing some of them.

Personally, I thought the game was worth it at launch and much more so now that it's heavily discounted. .....even if it were just for the solo experience. I don't have #s but there are still folks playing co-op that you can hook up with although playing with randoms will be a mixed bag. Your best bet is to find some folks through forums, a task force or community feature.

Co-op is certainly the best experience IMO (if you can find folks who like to play the way you do), but there is also some enjoyment in solo as well. .....at least there was and still is for me.

I bought it just for sp, and held off quite a while as I kept hearing people complain about the squad AI being so bad. Basically all the comments made me think it was a made for mp game with a tacked on sp that wasn't worth buying. Well, I finally tried it, and though I at first was actually worried it would be too hard due to fierce enemies during open combat, clumsy gun handling, animation quirks (cover, grenade throwing), etc, but once I learned more how to play the game, it became much easier and I found many useful workarounds.

I have since gone on to play every play through on Tier One mode as soon as it's accessible, and am now nearly done finishing up a play through on actual Tier level 1 via Mission Replay. You will hear many complaints about the game, and many are justified, though many are also nit picks and/or exaggerations. I do feel though that the change in formula to this new GR style is for the most part a good one. The bottom line is, even many of those whom complain a lot about the game will admit it's fun to play, and that speaks volumes.

IMO it's easily the best game of 2017, and I've played AC Origins and Wolfenstein II, the latter of which won best action game. It's like this, today's gamers are mostly like today's voters. They are very trend vs issue oriented. This is why truly good games are often overlooked at the game awards. I certainly hope it doesn't get to the point where everyone makes their games to cater to such types, because I would really miss games like this. Vote by conscious, not influence.

The bottom line is it's only $19.80 on the Uplay store right now, what are you waiting for?

You should buy it if you like shooters that require a bit of thought and where deciding which way to tackle the mission is more important than shooting skills.

I played mainly in coop for the campaign but got a great deal of enjoyment in single player and I am also enjoying PvP. I agree with Frag that the game was one of the best of 2017.

Make sure you get a gold edition, it's not much more expensive, you can easily find keys for under €30. it's a good deal and will give you several days of extra content via two extra provinces in the main campaign and two fairly significant DLC campaigns. One of those, Narco Road, has a bit of a reputation as kinda silly and GTAish, but I learnt to enjoy it anyway after I got into the spirit of it, and the Fallen Ghosts DLC is a fantastic last act to the overall story, an interesting challenge, full of cool new weapons and skills, and it's a blast to have a campaign focussed on taking down the corrupt national police army and their elite PMC support.

And that's just story and gameplay content, you'll also get a bunch of premium items and such.
